Avelo Airlines to Discontinue Direct Service from the California Redwood Coast-Humboldt County Airport to Las Vegas

Press release from the County of Humboldt:

Avelo Airlines informed Humboldt County officials [yesterday], that they will discontinue service between the California Redwood Coast-Humboldt County Airport (ACV) and the Las Vegas International Airport (LAS). The last flights between ACV-LAS will be on Sunday, May 1.

The service started twice weekly, on November 18, 2021, with flights on Thursdays and Sundays. The service got off to a successful start in November and December 2021, however in recent months the route became infeasible due to record high oil prices.

“We are disappointed to see this route not continue for the residents of Humboldt County,” said Cody Roggatz, Director of Aviation for the County of Humboldt. He added, “We worked for many years to try to establish ACV-LAS service and unfortunately due to factors outside of our control (fuel prices) this route is not sustainable for Avelo to continue operating at this time. We are thankful to Avelo for providing this service and look forward to the continued partnership, and future expansion, of the ACV-Los Angeles Service provided to the Hollywood-Burbank Airport.”

“We appreciate Avelo Airline’s investment in our market and are sorry that the service to Las Vegas was not sustainable,” added Gregg Foster, Executive Director of the Redwood Region Economic Development Commission. “We understand that changing conditions in the airline industry mean that every airline must carefully evaluate every market. We’re pleased that they will continue provide service to Hollywood-Burbank Airport. Don’t forget that best way to keep air service is to use it. Flying local is buying local!”

Avelo will continue to provide 3 weekly flights to and from the greater Los Angeles Area through the Hollywood-Burbank Airport. They will be adding a 4th weekly flight, on Saturdays, between mid-June and mid-August of this year. For booking information, please visit the Avelo Airlines website.

ACV to Las Vegas is not a solution to our society’s unhealthy inability to cope with addiction, and addictive behaviorz.

You still holding on by the last threads that trump was worse than Biden. Nice try. That’s laughable. This will go down in history as biden being the worst president in history for the rest of history and I am glad I didn’t vote for Biden. Obama doesn’t even like Biden. No one does anymore. He obviously has dementia or Alzheimer’s and is corrupt beyond comprehension. When Russia calls you corrupt you know your in trouble.

A choice between a dotard and a lying thief is no real choice. And I don’t see any relief anytime soon, as I see no viable leader-presidents in our future.

The Humboldt cannabis industry is collapsing taking our entire economy down with it. Direct fights to Vega is the tip of the iceberg.

The ocean, rivers, redwood forest, mild climate, hiking, biking, fishing…
Humboldt has depended on cannabis dollars for a long time, that is true, but we can make do without it.

Humboldt-Las Vegas never made any sense: Here in Humboldt, we have an abundance of casinos, alcohol and alcohol serving establishments, and easily obtained street drugs at low prices. Heck, we even have a “gentlemen’s club” in Eureka. Little reason to bother with Las Vegas. Plus, there’s far less easy money here than there once was.

It’s not about Vegas as a destination. It’s about connecting with options to get somewhere else. Vegas is a hub airport; from there you can get almost anywhere in a reasonable amount of time for a reasonable amount of money.

This may surprise you, but WE were actually the destination as much as Las Vegas.
People do like to escape the heat, fly out to the ocean and see the redwoods.

So sad to see this service to and from ACV and LAS being discontinued. It made it possible for my husband and I to spend so much more time together. We have our home in Vegas, and also in Trinidad, CA where my husband is a casino director. This flight made it so much easier for us to be together more often. So sad to see this service being discontinued because of fuel prices. We would have happily paid the increase in fares, saddened this wasn’t an option vs discontinuing the service.

True that, seems they’d try $20/ea ticket increase first

Living near the airport, I was expecting this. Those are big planes. How could ACV generate enough traffic to fill them? With emergency subsidies tapering off, reality set in.

Avelo realized they can make more money by taking BidenBucks to fly illegal aliens all over the country.

There is plenty of airline fuel, paid for by us tax payers, to fly POTUS POS, defective VP, Congress idiots, immigrants, all over the world, back and forth across the nation. End fuel dependence? Fight climate change? Yeah sure!
