On 08-22-2020, at approximately 0820 hrs., a white RAM 3500 driven by Dylan Pullins was traveling in the S/B traffic lanes of US-101 approaching Perkins St., at a high rate of speed. As the RAM 3500 approached Perkins St., Pullins made a sharp right turn in the direction of the Perkins St. off-ramp. Pullins was unable to maintain control of the RAM 3500 as it entered the gore point and the front end of the vehicle collided with a tree. The right front passenger of the RAM 3500, identified as Garrett Taylor, was trapped inside the vehicle by engine compartment intrusion into the passenger compartment and a damaged right front passenger door. The RAM 3500 subsequently caught fire and despite the efforts of Good Samaritans who arrived on scene, Taylor was unable to be extricated before succumbing to the heat and smoke.

Pullins was subsequently contacted at the scene and transported to Ukiah Valley Medical Center (UVMC), where he was treated for minor injuries. Pullins was arrested by the California Highway Patrol at UVMC for Felony DUI, Gross Vehicle Manslaughter, False Information to a Peace Officer and False Impersonation. Pullins was medically cleared at UVMC and booked at the Mendocino County Jail. The California Highway Patrol (CHP), Ukiah Police Department (UPD), Mendocino County Sheriffs’ Office (MCSO), Caltrans, UVFA Fire and Medstar responded to the scene. US-101 S/B to Perkins St. was shut down until approximately 1145 hrs. to accommodate the collision investigation.

Anyone with information regarding this collision is encouraged to contact the Ukiah Area CHP office.>

So he DUIs into a tree, kills his passenger, and then lies to the cop about his identity, presumably because he has warrants and/or previous DUIs?

It sure would be nice if we treated DUI as attempted murder, which is really what it is…

Exactly. Let’s see if he does any prison time. Or maybe just a couple months in jail. Disgusting

A front bumper would’ve kept the engine from intruding into the cab. Sad story for all involved. RIP

I know this kid and he is a good person. We all make mistakes, no one can judge any of us except God. My condolences and prayers go out to the family of the young man who passed away. Please pray for them and keep your unwarranted comments to yourselves. Two families are losing someone they love.

His BAC was .2. Not .02, but .2.

Pullins made a choice and that choice ended up killing someone.

When someone breaks the law and kills someone as a direct result of that law breaking – heck yes we will judge.

Multiple lives impacted, needlessly

In many DUI crashes, the “wrong” person dies.

At least the carnage was contained to one vehicle and didn’t swallow up innocent motorists. As a passenger, you know what you’re getting into if you ride with a drunk.

That’s right. Say NO to getting into the car with someone who’s been drinking!

18 years old and 8:20AM says to me he was still partying on booze someone else bought for them. Hell of a way to begin adulthood by getting your friend killed.

That’s another group of people who are impacted by the drunk driver… the Good Samaritans who try in vain to save a life, and will always remember that, despite their best efforts, someone died. Vivid images, often very unpleasant ones, stay with early responders.

I was behind the tow truck that had the truck attached to it. Wow! Trees don’t move. There were still vans shoes in the floorboards and the ram logo from the hood was behind the seats. Huge truck crumpled like tin foil.

Don’t trucks have to have bumpers?

A real bumper! Not the piece of tin or plastic that comes with the vehicle. Or are you trying to be the funny guy commenting on an article about a tragedy?!?

I feel like NONE of you should comment on this. Most of these comments are rude, unnecessary and inappropriate. This was a tragedy for all involved. Would you want to read about how crushed the car was and what kind of condition it was in if you were the boys mother who past away? Probably not. Look in other people shoes. The boy who was driving is NOT disgusting. He lost his friend and is traumatized for life. He should be held responsible and a court of law will determine what that is. you people should also be quiet when you know NOTHING about what has happened to these people or what it’s like to be involved in a situation like this. Get a life.

Unfortunately, because of a bad decision, Garret will not be able to “get a life”

Maybe the lack of being taught consequences for ones actions should be discussed. Hey “-” So many other people could have lost their lives Saturday morning. There were numerous calls into law enforcement about the speed and irradic driving of the truck before it impacted the tree.

His behavior, the lack of being taught responsibility, the lack of knowledge of consequences has affected this community.

Great – glad he is traumatized. May that stick with him for the rest of his life and help him monitor his behavior going forward.

Oh, everyone will be sad for a while – but then resume same or similar behaviors.

How about YOU “get a life” and teach accountability and responsibility.

I passed by this accident and saw the truck smashed into the tree as they were setting up road blocks to the Perkins St. ramp. The ambulances had left and I was astonished that the sight of the truck was as if it had been propelled into the tree at 500 mph. I thought I was looking at a movie set. Imagine if there had been someone driving in the path of this youngster. I remember being 18 and having my first taste of alcohol, not being able to handle it well, but never would I have tried to drive in that state. I’m sorry for everyone involved. I hope to never come upon a sight like this again. Maybe there should be some kind of alcohol monitoring device that activates from the driver’s seat if a driver is this intoxicated. We could probably figure out the technology.

The mans Best friend dead, both almost killed, driver injured, isnt that enough punishment, oh yeah, christianity is albout Guilt, Sin and Blame. We nailed that man to the cross, Jesus died for our sins…. all hogwash.. of course all the hate filled people here will just use this as an excuse to spew more hatred and evil. People on this blog just cant wait for bad news so they can let even more hatred out against the world and community. Thanks Kym for always giving the community haters a place to voice their anger and hatred. It is better than them opening fire on innocent people, many commenters are obvious sociopaths and psychotics

I knew this kid. He was always a d**k and I wasn’t surprised that it was him. [edit] To any of those who think that his guilt is enough punishment, you are extremely wrong. He needs to go to jail for a very long time.

Choices not mistakes. Accountability for those choices….not blame-ability. You yourself are spewing the very hate filled, psychotic, sociopathic, person you described. You are the epitome of “your” description of Christianity, sinful, guilty and to blame…for what is called hypocrisy. The finger you point is outnumbered by those pointing back to you.

Seems Kym is right, you being her most prolific commenter by use of your own words:
Thanks Kym for always giving the community haters a place to voice their anger and hatred!

Thank you for the irony…..
