Law enforcement has been at Redwood Acres Fairground near the intersection of Myrtle and Harris in Eureka since before 4:45 p.m.

We heard reports of the bomb squad being at the scene and sent a reporter.

At about 6:15 p.m., our reporter heard someone yelling “fire in the hole” a few times and then there was a small detonation.

Harris Street was closed.

We haven’t yet gotten anyone to speak on the record about the situation.

UPDATE 6:28 p.m.: Our reporter, Mark McKenna, was able to take video of officers walking with the radioed controlled robot. “No one will say anything,” McKenna said. However, witnesses said that before the explosion, the robot moved something to a pile of gravel near the track.

UPDATE 6:38 p.m.: According to a member of the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, about 4 p.m. they received a call of a suspicious device. When they arrived, they found a modified electric device. They rendered it inert and, the following inspection showed that it hadn’t contained an explosive.

Harris Street has reopened and so has Redwood Acres.

Real grenade at the fake flea market? Mis-identified leftover from the marble weekend? Some entirely innocent object?

You felt them destroying an electronic device at redwood acres?

Or you meant that for the other thread? 🙂

Quake shook up more than ground. Apparently shook up a few “brains” in Humboldt County.
