Earth First Claims They Temporarily Halted Logging on Rainbow Ridge Yesterday

Press release from Earth First! Humboldt (Please be aware that this contains a point of view and is not a news report):

Log trucks headed into Humboldt Redwood Company (HRC) timberlands were stalled Monday morning when workers discovered a thirty foot tripod blocking the road with a forest defender perched at the apex. The forest defender called for HRC to stop cutting trees on Rainbow Ridge, saying that the forest contains some of the largest unprotected Douglas fir and hardwood stands in Northern California and logging creates a heightened risk of forest fire.

This marks the second week of work stoppages in the Rainbow Ranch timber harvest plan, located west of Humboldt Redwood State Park.

The tripod blocked vehicle access to the worksite for two hours before logger Ed Lewis bulldozed a section of road through the steep hillside below the tripod. He let multiple trucks through before Humboldt County Sheriffs arrived and told him not to use this road due to safety concerns.

A forest defender stated, “These logging operations have local and global implications.

HRC’s timber harvesting violates a unique watershed that has seen decades of restoration work. Meanwhile, in the face of climate change and mass extinction, we cannot afford to sacrifice carbon sinks and biodiversity hotspots, of which Rainbow Ridge is both.”

Meanwhile, local residents rallied at the logging road access gate, expressing concerns over the conservation value of the area being logged and HRC’s lack of community accountability.

By mid-morning, the sheriffs were cutting the legs of the tripod, seriously endangering the life of the sitter, who is going by ‘Weaver’. Weaver explained to the sheriffs the danger of dismantling the tripod with them at the top, but the deputies proceeded, badly bruising Weaver, arresting them, and opening up road access to the machinery and log trucks.

Weaver, a nonviolent protester, is being held in the Humboldt County Jail. There will be a rally outside of the jail, located in Eureka, tomorrow (Wednesday), starting at 9am.

Thank you for Forest Defenders for keeping watch. And informing the public against these crimes against Mankind and nature. The sheriff’s department tactics of cutting people out of high places is definitely endangering of human life. If they continue and somebody gets hurt I’m sure there will be a big lawsuit it is good that this is being documented.

Oh boy, you accomplished nothing! Oh, wait, you didn’t accomplish nothing – you caused the creation of a new road, with associated erosion and the other problems new hastily-constructed roads cause. Good job!

No Ed Lewis caused that through the willfull use of impatience.
He was getting paid by the hour, so he didn’t have a need, and certainly no authority, to make a new road, except his ego being upset by his conscience and the inability (lack of maturity) to reconcile that.

He knows, deep in his heart, he shouldn’t be cutting those trees. You all do too.

Now, who at ncrwqcb, is going to fine him for the water quality violation?

I hope they make two new roads for every one blocked.

And, as someone who lives in a wood-framed house, I think they should be cutting those trees. And anyone else who lives in a wooden house, uses toilet paper, gets things in cardboard packaging, or in any other way uses forest products, should too.

Well, lets take a look at the route progress has taken. In Europe, building started out in wood and progressed to lomger lasting materials as skills and wealth built.
When europeans came to america, they had skills, but they had a plethora of easy at hand wood, and so they made use of it.
Now, we make alot of buildings mainly of metal. And we are moving on to super insolating fiber innoculated with enough concrete to make it durable. Built into steel framing onsite.

Its ok to move along with time.

Smart people look at what’s happening and make adjustments.

It happens to be a factor in individual longevity. People who cannot change with the times die younger simply from the social stress factors.

Good for the sheriff’s department in mr. Lewis you people that keep trying to stop them from making a living and following the rules why don’t you get a job and contribute to the economy instead of trying to disrupt it you’re going to lose in the end just like you did that day and he got arrested and he’s in jail where he belongs and they’re back to logging and that’s the way it’s always going to continue you can keep trying but you got to lose in the end cuz you already have they have the permits to log given to them by the federal government you’re done go home

I am quite frankly sick to death with these damn crazy so call forest protectors. They are not doing any good for anything. It made me very happy to read Ed Lewis made a side road for the trucks, and watching the Sheriff’s deputy cutting down the “Weaver Perch.” Sounds like he hit the ground with a thud. If this keeps up, I am afraid some body is going to be seriously hurt or killed.

Well, when they do there’ll be a lawsuit amd you’ve just established “forseeability” for the forest defenders.

It is easily forseeable by an uneducated person of normal intellect that harm could come from the behavior or actions undertaken by the defendant.

As you say, the sheriff can easily foresee the forest defenders can get hurt by the deputies’ actions.

They have no jobs. Soros backs them through various orgs. They are from out of the area. None of them are local. Outside agitators all. They refuse to meet with independent press. Very suspect. Let locals find solutions. EFJournal hides out in southern Oregon now and also refuses to meet with press or allow dissenting voices in their ranks. But they do not publish direct action because they are all cowards and not “earth defenders.”

With 25,000,000+ citizens in California and you as a handful of “Earthies” showing up to stop logging on Rainbow tells me one BIG FACT. YOU DON’T REPRESENT A MAJORITY OF THE CITIZENS. Therefore, you don’t mean shit in the eyes of the public!!!
Why aren’t you out there stumping for AOC or Bernie? This action would be way more productive than cutting down 30′ live trees to make your “tripod nest of dissent”. Destruction of private property?? Yep!.
FU -EFR’s. You’re domestic terrorists and should be arrested and charged accordingly.
Crawl back under your toadstools, eat your tofu sandwiches, and be sure to campaign in the cities for the losers like yourselves.

//”YOU DON’T REPRESENT A MAJORITY OF THE CITIZENS. ”

The majority is mob rule, you backwoods po-dunk.

“Truth always rests with the minority, and the minority is always stronger than the majority, because the minority is generally formed by those who really have an opinion, while the strength of a majority is illusory, formed by the gangs who have no opinion — and who, therefore, in the next instant (when it is evident that the minority is the stronger) assume its opinion… while truth again reverts to a new minority.”

I’m sure Mr. Weaver was warned multiple times to get down, or be assisted down, lol! He chose the later. He wasn’t hurt, as he was able to be admitted into the Humboldt Hilton (Humboldt County Jail), and no need for St. Joe’s. Reminder, this was a one sided story! Without clearing of tree’s, we will soon be like everywhere else in California, a huge fireball! No thank you! Mr. Weaver does not represent me, and does not have a right to do what he’s doing. Funny, he wants to save trees, yet he builds a wooden tri- pod? He’s crazy! What does he wipe with? Maybe he doesn’t. He can hold a sign at the Courthouse like everyone else, I’m all for freedom of speech. He does NOT have a right to stop another from a hard days work while providing for his family. Mr. Weaver…QUIT FREE LANCING, GET A JOB! If you weren’t such a pain, people may take you more seriously, and actually listen to what you are trying to say. You should try it sometime.
