‘We Stand With Rex,’ Says Group in Front of Courthouse Today After Supervisor Faces Controversy Because of Racially Charged Statement
Bohn has acknowledged asking in March if a Mexican meal was “so authentic that we’re going to want to steal hubcaps after we eat.” He then wrote in a Facebook post about a month after his statement,
It’s come to my Attention that I was overheard making an off-colored remark to someone. If my admittedly inappropriate poor taste in a joke has offended anyone I deeply and profoundly apologize. I believe that anyone who looks at my track record and history of support for diverse groups and individuals across the entire spectrum of ethnic and interest groups can see where my heart and true feelings are. Love Humboldt
Supporters decided to gather to show their appreciation “for all the positive things that Rex Bohn has done and continues to do for the community,” as noted in a letter today.
One of Bohn’s smaller supporters appears a little leery….

“Racially Charged” is a cop out phrase for Racist!
As a reporter, I’m not supposed to use language in news articles indicating that I take a position. I’m pretty sure if I use the word “racist” a number of folks would think I had taken a position.
If people are determined to make anything a “racially charged” incident, they will. And will, and will, and will… Did any of this political supporters raise that issue that it should be linked by the reporter in this article? Or is it that reporter has decided that it needs to be linked? Frankly ever political activity that Bohn has is going to be “following his controversial statement”. Does that mean you feel that nothing he does is ever going to be considered unrelated to it?
This rally was held in direct reaction to other’s reaction to Bohn’s statement…so yes, bringing it up is relevant.
Thanks for your reporting, Kym.
The joke issue wasn’t just “brought up”; it was the sole point. Were any of the supporters asked a single question about why they were there? Was Rex Bohn contacted (you know he would been happy to talk with you)? Was it possible that a speech was delivered but never mentioned? How long did they stay? How many were there?
Sheesh, all that? I could sure use some help. Want to work for the $30 I pay my freelancers for short stories like this.
Meanwhile I live in SoHum, am trying to write a few other stories today, pick up my kid from school, etc. Sometime I could be better but frankly there aren’t many people that work as much as I do so I usually cut myself some slack.
Mark, the photog, was on his way to work, saw this, and jumped and grabbed some great photos but had to get to work so we didn’t get any interviews. That’s the kind of reporting you get when we don’t have a lot of money to pay folks.
Donate button is on the front page.
Phone calls are not costly. Nor time consuming.
I’m sitting here at 10:02 at night (I was on at 5:45 this morning) and working again. How would you suggest I call anyone but Rex Bohn? I can probably get hold of him but I have no other phone numbers except the person who posted the letter inviting everyone there. I have a backlog of stories to do. I barely talked to most of my family today though I did manage to run to town and get new tires (Shout out to Vern and Billy at Redway Tire–they are awesome), and other chores.
I know you want to tell me what I could do better but…you’re going to have to take a number and get in behind my kids, my husband, my neighbors, etc. Meanwhile, I’ll keep plugging away at what I think I can do. When you try my job for awhile or contribute money to help me get help, then we’ll talk. Otherwise…you’re out of luck.
[NOTE: Bohn would have been likely in the Supe’s meeting for much of the day so I would have missed posting this story until late in the day if I had waited to interview him]
If I am really, really lucky, I’m going to get 6 and 1/2 hours sleep to match the 6 and 1/2 I got yesterday. I get grouchy when I don’t get sleep and that’s pretty often. I still have stories from days ago that I promised to write….I would like to do more but I really don’t see how I can squeeze more in.
So why am I spending time responding to you when I know that I am doing the best I can squeeze in? Probably because I am an idiot who will now get ready for bed and stop being an idiot.
You know people, Kym is the one who gives us the paper and pens to put our stuff out there. Leave her alone, and concentrate on your issue. You cannot write to the local papers using the names we do on this site. If you have time to berate her, you have time to write or call the parties yourself. I do. I have called and gotten response from Rex, and others. Then, you can report your findings here for us to see. I mean, Kym prints all the things I send her, and I know she does not agree with all I say. Yet, she puts it out there. The local papers are not at all as fair, and they do not have the courage to print things they do not agree with. So let’s concentrate on the issue being reported on, not the reporter. And if you think you can do a better job, go for it, start your own, and see how it works. Because EVERYONE I talk to says the first thing they do is put on the coffee, and check the Redhead. And they are glad to have her. We are lucky to have her. Thank You
Aww, thank you. Also, even with short sleep, I’m less crabby so I can appreciate more that of course a reader wants the best information possible and has the right to advocate for it. I just happen to know I’m stretched to the max.
Stuber- my issue is with the press. And the issues reported and importantly not reported. That means Kym in her way too. If the previously reported but now repeated parts of this article are dropped out, it comes down to Bohn met with supporters outside outside the courthouse this morning. ???? That’s it. Before the first sentence is finished, the “controversial statement,” ie joke in poor taste, is mentioned, followed by a repeat of his apology off face book, followed by a statement about what those supporters thought based on not talking to a single one of them but based on a letter from a person who may or may not even been there. It’s as if the sole purpose was not to inform but to keep a rehashed controversy going.
That is what Fox does. That is what NBC does. Keep every small controversy It is what reporters have come to see as their business, their bread and butter, their raison d’etre, their morality. They exacerbate difference and frustrate reconciliation with this constant war drumming.
I agree that I am dumping a lot on Kym’s head but if you’ve noticed the press is singularly resistant to feedback from their consumers. This is the one place I know to voice these concerns directly. Since so much is “free” internet content, consumers can’t even vote with their dollars. Since the same stories appear under different guises in various sources, news has become a rancorous popularity contest in which unbiased information is not even a contestant. The reader has become what is sold, not the customer. I was not exaggerating when I said the press gave us Trump. If it doesn’t worry a person what comes next, it should. It’s likely to be a more experienced, more successful demagogue and it won’t matter if it’s from the far left or far right. It will be awful.
KYM, BTW I have hit the donate button.
If the story’s not enough… If you think it should be.. more, different, have a different slant, or an opinion, or lack of..
Write one… Free..
when you see a good story write it.. SUbmit it.. Kym would PROB read it, and see if it’s reporting.. and Possibly publish it..
Kym does so much on her own (and Some of us appreciate it).
Kym could prob use the help…
Thank you.
You do a fantastic job, Kym. I continue to be amazed at how well you handle all the agitated individuals who just don’t get it and need to stir up hostility.

I appaud you…you continue to be the best and respectful reporting site this Humboldt has….if there are those in disagreement …well their bias is showing.
Report on lady!
Rex is trying to conceal his wounds….good for him …but this should have never happened…he is exposed.
Is exposed as what? Someone who knows an good Mexican joke when he hears one? I think the funniest thing(in an OMG, WTF kind of way)I’ve heard out of this whole thing, so far, was the response a white person gave to a Mexican man who wrote that he thought the joke was funny.
The Mexican man recalled how, when he was a kid, he and his friends would go out and steal hubcaps, and thought a reference to that was a funny way to authenticate the food.
The white person actually had the gall to upbraid the Mexican, and tell him he, “had it wrong,” because he wasn’t as offended as the white person thought he should be, as if a Mexican person would be too stupid to know when to laugh, and at what, without a white person telling them.
That is extremely patronizing, and I think all you white people out there, with your fake outrage, should take a good hard look at yourself, and see how hilarious you really would be, if you were not so…sorry.
Meanwhile, the best Mexican jokes I’ve heard have come from Mexicans, the best black jokes from blacks, the best blond jokes from a blond girl sitting next to her blond mother, who had just sniffingly informed my uncle and I that, “some people are offended by that type of joke,” and of course, the best white jokes come from white people.
Because if you can’t laugh at yourself (and others), you’re just a sorry-ass, uptight, politically correct jerk, and who would want to eat with you, anyway?
I get your position. You don’t want to appear to make a judgment call, you just want to report what is fact.
But it’s a fact that Mr. Bohn’s statement represents a racist stereotype of Mexicans. To wit: Mexicans steal hubcaps, so eating real Mexican food might make a white person want to steal hubcaps, too.
That’s not “racially charged language,” it’s a racist stereotype, no judgment call needed.

Yes and neither are appropriate, since it was not racist joke or racially charged. Mexican is not a race.
Huligu the Mongol, went into Bagdad in 1256 AD., and slaughtered 880,000 Muslims there. The Japanese constantly went into Korea, and took slaves, up to and during WWII, as well as the Phillipines, and other surrounding nations. The Mayans or the Aztecs slaved and slaughtered each other for sacrifices to gods that do not nor did not exist. The Africans slaved each other for thousands of years, and sold them to Mohammed until recently. Mohamed was a major slave trader. The Mongols went into China on a regular basis, slaving and slaughtering as they went. The natives here killed so many species into extinction, except the buffalo. They also slaved and killed each other . Raided each other’s territory, and if you were a Crow, you did not want to be caught in the Blackfoot territory, bad business. And yet, we are all one race, Homo Sapien Sapiens. Stupid.
Exactly. But no one will listen.
Yes, and what about America? We have slaughtered millions in the Civil War (Afro-Americans and Native Americans holocausts), WWl, Korea, Vietnam (1.3 million from American records and 2.3 million from United Nations and more today from the spraying of Agent Orange), Kuwait, Iraq, Afghanistan and a bunch of other countries including in Africa. Millions and millions of innocent people died from the U.S. derogatory term. Collateral Damage. A misleading phrase for American’s MURDERING foreign civilians. Add in other countries that American politicians including presidents suckered into being our partners in crimes against innocent civilians and add millions more. And all under the guise of freeing suppressed people when in truth it was U.S. Military corporations banking billions in tax payer’s money (1.3 trillion dollars for Iraq and Afghanistan. Yes, we are the leaders in the free world…………..leaders of death and destruction!!
You seem to have missed the point. Neighboring tribes and cultural sets have tended to treat each other badly throughout human history. Trade and commerce, creating a positive-sum game, are the two factors that seem to force such groups to see each other as full humans and treat each other with standards of human decency.
OK, so a bigoted joke.
That’s so much better
Yes, truth is pretty much always better. People wan to apply the term “racist” because it has implicit association with the most heinous practices of early American culture. It subconsciously puts Rex and his Mexican joke in league with people who enslaved people, ordragged black men to death behind trucks.
“Right He should have said, “will it make us want to take a boat from Spain to North America and murder the indigenous people and take their land””
But it wasn’t English food. Had it been, that would be kinda funny.
Are you kidding?
Mexican food is not spanish food. Both are good but not the same.
Look at that ethnically diverse crowd!
Not an ounce of empathy, that’s my estimate.
How dare they not be ethnically diverse enough in appearance to suit you? Damned white people are so uppity as to think they have a right of association without your approval…
Nobody is questioning your right to mobilize white people, but the imagery does underscore that there are great differences of opinion between groups as to what constitutes racism and what is appropriate.
Exactly! Lots of Mexicans out there who support him and were not hurt by his comments! He did nothing wrong at all, cause these white folks say so! LMFAO. Lame!
The objection is for the same person to define racist one way for one race and another for another race. The nonsense about only a majority can be racist is the most egregiously self serving rationalization.
Yes, they should have taken a page from the “progressive” playbook and brought in some “diverse” people in from HSU and Los Angeles, regardless of whether or not they’re First District voters.
I know! Where’s the white guy wearing a black lives matter t shirt? Or the LGBQT female wearing a MAGA hat? Or the Mexican waving an American Flag? None of this crowd is politically correct!!’n we must protest. Shame on them for there appearance and for being white! Protest now!!
~too funny!
Runrummer, were you there? Would you have made it diverse? Would it really have mattered?

Nice that there were kids and dogs, but I don’t notice that there were any Hispanics.
The Hispanics were all out stealing hubcaps. *rimshot*
I’m thinking most of these demonstrators remove their hubcaps before they drive into civilization.
Nobody steals hubcaps anymore. They are all plastic. Rex obviously needs to update his joke portfolio.
By the way during my short stint as a hub cap thief ( they were made out of stone back then) I had been eating fish sticks. Fish on Friday was an Irish Catholic thing. Stupid juice (Boones farm apple wine) was our fool fuel. Hub cap extraction was our Netflix.
Last I checked it is still ok to make jokes about the Irish, hillbillies and rednecks. That’s because most of the “jokes” are actually true stories. I am proud to be a part of an ethnic identity that can laugh at itself. We are becoming an endangered species.
The fact remains Rex has done and does a lot for the community. The Community includes people of different identities.
There’s a lot of thievery in Humboldt, from what I read in the news, majority from white males!

Look its his whole family!! What a surprise. They dont want him to lose that job, its lotsa back door money&favors on top of salary. The wives got told show up with kids or else.
&theres the buddies he’s helped make big money off our tax dollars.
&maybe a few he paid to be there like at prior events.
Ya kno cuz $90,000/yr wasnt enuf for he&the other board members, instead of giving county care providers a raise from 11 to 13$/hr, the board( all except Madrone) voted to give themselves a raise and NOT the care providers.
Nice work Rex!
Pretty funny when a group writes a letter about a public event theyre having just hours before they have it. That really says something.
Scared of someone coming to counter you???
To be fair, this letter was sent to me on Sunday and because of not understanding what was wanted we had to correspond and then I was busy. The letter writer however, had as said before, advocated this rally several weeks ago in the Times Standard.
wrong
White ppl have difficulty being held accountable & being corrected of their mistakes, as you see in the comments. The level of privilege and audacity screams volumes.
As a former Marine, Rex is a Brother in my book. An Apology for the slight was needed and given. It takes a true Man to apologize for doing wrong. Rex Apologized.
As a member of the Priesthood, I accept said apology. As an Elder of my Native American People (Eastern Cherokee), I accept said apology. As I am a part of a Military family who has served America since the Revolutionary War when we stood with General George Washington – I accept said Apology.
We need not use these slights as a catalyst to do harm to the community. Such Bias is commonly shown in thread comments as witnessed here. When we begin to segregate each other by mere appearances, then we are indeed in trouble. Attending today’s events where people from many Racial and Cultural backgrounds. To simply generalize people by their appearance and color of their skin is to fall in to error in itself.
There where Hispanic, Native American, Caucasian, Asian and other people of both color and nationalities attending. One merely walk through the crown and talk to people as I do. Judging from a few photos is an error in judgment.
Pray before you post a comment, the “Bias” in thine heart will be taken away and the Truth revealed. -M
Thank you for your wise words.
I didn’t want to be soppy but yes. It is easy to be reactive, both in truth and in imagination. That is human. But being reminded that it is not the end of the story is good. A little kick in the rear end helps me climb out of my rut.
you wanna go steal some hubcaps after we slaughter the enemy’s babies in the name of the good capitalism?
~you’re confusing 20th century crony capitalism with free market capital.
Your comment is so thoughtful and well written. I strive to be as mature and level headed as you appear to be.
People can make statements that are not grounded in facts and you just did. Only white people in the photos. I’m sure the photographer would have tried to take photos to highlight any diversity that was there. Obviously there was none. Where was this event you speak of that was so diversely attended? Please clarify.
Sounds like you are lying…
I’m sure many photographers would intentional exclude colored people from the photos.
The diversity that matters is diversity of thought, it doesn’t show up in photos.
Colored people???? What color were they, besides white??? Sky Blue Pink perhaps???!!!
I, on the other hand, who grew up with the Society for the Advancement of Colored People, never understood why colored people suddenly became something to mock someone over and people of color was correct. I’m all for calling people what they want to be called…I just am a little unclear on why this happened.
All those misnomers were given by the oppressive class and has non-human legal meaning along with a historical demeaning & wicked inception. You mind someone of a different ethnicity calling you people no-color…. weird. Prior to the revolutionary war, try finding what people were called & classified as!
Trying to avoid offending anyone in the current climate where as you point out, no one knows what is inoffensive anymore, I used the term, “gentlemen whose parents exhibited high levels of malanin,” in a comment on a competing news site.
I was berated for the, “sheer racism,” of my comment, so I explained my uncertainty regarding what is actually offensive to no one nowadays, and offered an even more obfuscatory definition: “melanocyte-rich individuals.”
For which I’ve been called so many names, I may just go home and cry.
My point being, what the hell was wrong with black and white? When people decide that every term used to describe them is offensive, even ones they originally came up with, what does that tell us about their feeling about themselves? And at what point are we going to stop feeling guilty for feelings beyond our control?
Check it out – the only universally accepted term used by black people to describe one another is, “nigger,” or, “niggah,” or, nigga,” or however they want to say it at the moment. But we’re not allowed to use that. Neither are we allowed to use black, or Negro, or colored, or African-American – it’s almost like they feel we should regard them as gods, so terrible that their name can never be spoken.
Hell, Kym – you’re a journalist, who keeps up on this shit, and you’re mystified. How in the hell are the rest of us supposed to keep up? Or better yet, why should we try to keep up? I feel like we’re being led around by the nose by a sadistic sociopath who just loves to make people feel like miserable failures for being unable to achieve impossible goals.
“You want to prove you’re not a racist? Never refer to us by anything remotely descriptive again!”
“But what shall we call you?”
“I don’t know! Figure it out!”
“How about (….)?”
“Okay! We’ll go with that!”
(Two months later): “That’s racist and insensitive.”
“What? It’s what you said to call you two months ago!”
“Too bad. Now you’re a jerk if you say that. Now we’re (…).”
“Ok. Anything to not appear racist.” (Tells a friend)
(Two months later, friend has black eye): “WTF? I thought that wasn’t racist?”
(Goes back to melanocyte-rich friend): “No, bro, you can’t call us that anymore. it’s racist and insensitive.”
“What?! I thought the last thing was?”
“No, bro – you gotta call us (…) now.”
And on and on and on…
I don’t recall that Mr. Bohn made disparaging remarks about elderly Native American marines or priests. Perhaps that was at a different event?
I think you’ve hit the nail on the head. If anyone should be offended, it should be Mexicans. Yet white people are demanding not only an apology, but a public flogging, followed by a hanging, and drawing-and-quartering, with the body parts to be gibbeted for all to see.
The Mexican response in general seems to be, “Hey, hey! Good joke!” But their white defenders apparently think they are too stupid to know what’s funny, leading to a situation where you think a Mexican can’t laugh unless a white man tells him to, while at the same time, a Native American who is a Marine and a priest can’t accept an apology for his Mexican friends.
Pretty much leaves just whites calling the shots, and running the show. Pretty fucking patronizing, if you ask me, and way more racist than a hub-cap-stealing joke.
Things are said by people 20 years ago no one would have thought anything of it those kind of jokes have been told about everyone Irish every nationality it doesn’t mean that you don’t care about those people or respect those kind of people we’ve got to stop trying to make this division these people that are talking about these things that happen I turning this community into a racist community tring into them against us which is what nobody wants Rex’s good guy and you’re trying to turn him into something he is not but by the people standing there I see it’s not working too well people still knowing and believe in him
Your reasoning is whack.
So if my ancestors hung a black man from a tree decades ago & no one cared too much about then, that means it’d be ok, today?
If my dad taught me a Jewish Astray joke at the age of 6 and laughed. Does that mean I should share the same joke today, to another child, cause it was no biggie then, when he said it?
If my Uncle said in the 80’s, “All queers should be dragged into the street & shot!” While everyone around him laughed. Would you still think it’s ok to say and laugh along today?
Everyone can learn from their mistakes. If these topics are never addressed and we refuse to understand another’s point of view, cause it questions our own beliefs & actions, we only fall alone vs rise together!
Consider the difference between hanging someone from a tree and telling a stupid ethnic joke before you comment.
While you are correct pointing out they are different, a simple stupid comment, can just as easily lead from one to the other!
In 1955 Carolyn Donham said, Emmett Till whistled at her, to impress some men, she was hanging around. It seemed like such a silly harmless comment to her at the time, but it cost Emmett Till his life! You were saying?
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/27/us/emmett-till-lynching-carolyn-bryant-donham.html
And Bohn’s stupid comment led to what action at the Ingomar Club? That’s right, nothing! And it was not about a specific individual. Donham’s comment was more along the lines of somebody at work whispering, “I think so-and-so is a perv.” And that type of stereotyping comment does have consequences in this day and age.
That’s a long stretch to try and distance the 2.
Just cause Donham’s comment was more direct at an individual, does not mean a broad comment about a group, is invulnerable to causing harm on others.
For instance, are you aware Polish jokes originated from Nazi propaganda? They’re still retold today. Does that make them ok? And just cause nothing has happened yet, doesn’t mean it’s impossible. Just look at Everyone arguing on this thread. Now a little bit of humility never hurt anyone! Humble yourselves folks!
https://www.polamjournal.com/Library/Fighting_Defamation/The_Origin_of_the_Polish_Joke/the_origin_of_the_polish_joke.htm
So no one told Polish jokes before the Nazis? You’ve got to be kidding. And I doubt the Polish girlfriend who told me that Polish girls don’t use vibrators because they keep chipping their teeth got it from a Nazi.
But stereotyping people as racist is just fine. If people consider racism serious they would not use it so casually.
The difference between what Bohn said and what Donham said was that Bohn did not accuse any individual Mexican of stealing hubcaps. Donham accused a specific black individual of whistling at her and that specific accusation is what led to the lynching.
his comment may have led to an increased microbial content in the food, but hell I have got the shits the last 4 time times I have ate there. now I just have coffee and pastries. microbes can’t live on sugar.
That’s quite a long stretch. Yo. Close but no cigar. Curb however you want to make yourself feel better. Nighty night!
Kym, did you really delete my other comment? There was nothing offensive, wtf? Why do I even bother then.
I don’t show any other comment by you…
Im not this person ^
Rex is a tool of Humboldt’s real estate lobby, HumCPR. We can definitely do better.
So is Estelle “Getty”!!!
I’ll bet that 99.9% of the people who posted these comments has said worse over their lifetimes. They would not know what to say a racist remark is, if it rose up and smacked them right between their blind eyes.
Go Rex, I’m behind you all of the way, even though I can’t vote for you. I’ve lived among Hispanics and other Nationalities all of my life and all of them has said a lot of off colored remarks, so what? Doesn’t hurt me what so ever. The ones who disagrees with his remarks are probably half witted anyway.
The part that I think is funny is anytime I’ve overheard someone make a racist white joke and I come back with there ethnicity’s joke they get offended some people need to learn to take what they give not everyone is racist do people get pissed off at the comedians that make racial joke no they don’t so give the man a break he’s done a lot for the community and will continue if allowed to do so
What Rex’s comment really means is that he is not very bright and lacks good critical thinking skills. It was flat out stupid to say what he did. We can do better.
Oh for sure. Doesn’t mean he is bigoted against Mexicans though.
Yet, as the comment section shows, no one hardly ever does better. This reminds of the Victorians objecting to the use of the word “legs” because it’s indelicate.
Only if better than the last attempt.
Because you have never said anything like it at all, with your incandescent brightness and super-critical thinking skills. Why, you would never say anything as stupid, and we all know you are the one who can do better.
So I take it you’ll be on the next ballot?
Everyone can learn from their mistakes. If these topics are never addressed and we refuse to understand another’s point of view, cause it questions our own beliefs & actions, we only fall alone vs rise together!
Dont give a shit what he said.
White folks arent the most racist any longer. The traditional minorities here in California are! Holding all white people responsible for historical injustice is racist!
If Rex discriminates against anyone he should be held to account.
Who cares if someone’s feelings got hurt.
We have freedom of speech!
Lol not being responsible for your parents actions. A true american
We are only responsible for our own actions.
You said minorities are the most racist. Sources? Your comment seems to invoke what you claim to be against. Need a handheld mirror?

You are so typically white…
Funny it’s all white people standing with him 😂
Given the composition of Humboldt County, it’s what you would expect statistically.
Statistically I would expect 15% non white and 11% Hispanic per the US census bureau
Given that there are at most 25 or so identifiably caucasian adults in the photos, there is no evidence of a statistical anomaly. Especially if you consider that the Census figures include the HSU in-migrants and the reservations who are not in the First District.
What the fuck are you trying to say? You specifically said “Given the composition of Humboldt County, it’s what you would expect statistically.” and now you want to qualify it with the 5th district?
Fake news bro
The null hypothesis is intact whether you regard the small sample as representing Humboldt County or the First District in particular.
Don’t take the mix that is heavily skewed towards the composition of the HSU student body, or more particularly towards an ideological subset of the student body, that usually shows up in front of the courthouse as representative of Humboldt County.
And what the hell is an in-migrants?
So-Cal natives, mostly.
Yes and most Mexicans are out there working. I don’t have any problem with Rex’s comments, but I do have a problem with the noise coming from the whitehouse and other Republicans about how bad Mexicans are. They are great people from a hurting country. I would welcome more of them here to my construction company, they are the best workers out there, and good people all around in my experience. Keep the Mexicans, deport trump!
This is a stunning article shedding light on what folks will go through to get here and the risk they will take for a better life. These are the folks you want immigrating, they have major skin in the game.
https://theintercept.com/2019/05/04/no-more-deaths-scott-warren-migrants-border-arizona/
Cool. So you want to give them your house and job so they can be here? Come on man, if you’re gonna push things like this, then live what you speak don’t be a hypocrite. Give away your things to these migrants, including your home, because that’s what your pushing on the rest of us with people taking up housing raising costs, using infrastructure without paying for it, and getting hand outs on the back of workers. Why do you hate hard working struggling Americans and want to push them aside for someone that has never contributed?
There were many more people at the “Justice for Josiah” gathering, and it was mostly white. Are you saying there’s no legitimacy in an all-white gathering? Not sure what your point is, unless you’re saying whites don’t matter, which is incredibly bigoted and racist.
I got a joke…. what do you call a straight white male who pays taxes and votes? A racist!
Wtf does that have to do with anything? Feeling insecure?
I thought it was funny.
What! You think making racists remarks because this site allows it is not scary? Of course people should be insecure. That’s your purpose in life apparently to make white people as insecure as non white peoole. Congratulations. You have your wish. Instead of making everyone secure, you’ve made everyone insecure. Yeah that ought to lead to better things. It always has when war is declared. Cockroaches thrive on chaos.
Sad
I got a joke…. what do you call a straight white male who pays taxes and votes?
An Insecure American!
A proud american…
~Not an American.
It’s the difference between voting and electing.
I got a joke! What do you call a straight white male who pays taxes and votes?
A Mexican food aficionado!
The hubcaps are waiting!
Me Rex avoids paying our local airport while he does business. Just like other council members I bet. Do folks like him have free passes at airports?
Kym. Site acting wierd. One minute comments are there, next there not. ???
Funny how no one brings up the other candidate and why he was forced to drop out of running. Just a bunch of typical biased left wing racist haters. You will lose again, even with your 3 million illegally “imported “ voters.
“Helps me stealing hubcaps. Wasted all the time”. You’re all right Rex!
~now that’s funny.
Rex is not all right, tho. 4 years – out the door. Politics was never meant to be a career. Have you noticed that (at least) one of the state pensioned, receives 400 thou. something? Go cAlPeRs.
Personally I dont give a shit about rex or what he said.
It’s all these outsiders bringing their issues to our community. This is not an urban cesspool like the bay area or LA
We dont want City and suburban scum no matter their ethnicity dictating our way of life.
Your problems are your own.
I’m from here and do not agree with you. Please explain why you think only your and your friends view points are only allowed in Humboldt Cty, pt of The USA with freedom of choice & speech? Sounds like your interested in a dictatorship.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion.
I dont stifle anyone’s opinion, I may disagree.
I state mine as I see it.
Almost everything state and local government does disrespects those of us that were born here.
I do not honor social justice.
I do not honor diversity, I respect people’s constitutional rights.
I disagree with self loathing americans.
I do not feel sorry for drug addicts.
I do not agree with people leaching off society.
The suburbanites and city dwellers dont respect our way of life.
They dont advocate for us.
They steal our natural resources.
Our quality of life is diminished by their disregard.
Respect is reciprocal.
I understand you have a strong personal opinion.
I have yet to hear sources to back your opinions . I’m from here and disagree with you, but you suggested all others opinions are not welcome here. Am I not welcome in my own home, cause I disagree?
Still waiting for an actual answer, vs a skinhead recruitment list. Yawn!
Wow, who knew stating the obvious, common sense observations of most rural Americans is both simultaneously showing interest in dictatorships and a form of skinhead recruitment.
Wow, this has been fun. Rex’s supporters are good at gymnastics, the mental sort but you can’t turn sow to silk.
Rex is a pretty typical Humboldt Racist. It’s complicated. But, we should be able to recognize it when we see it. He should not have made that joke. At home, at a fundraiser, with a goat, on a boat. He should not have said it, and he should not be our supervisor. But, he did and he will be. One more term Rex. And, here is the complicated part, Rex has done good things. He works hard. He loves his family. But, like so many folks like him, he likes to make jokes, he makes them without thinking. But, he is Rex. Like so many men like him, he doesn’t think it matters and he will be given a pass. That’s the way we do things around here. But, slowly things are changing. We don’t have to accept someone who doesn’t have the good sense to think before he speaks. Maybe that is going to be the case this time. McCloskey has some good ideas, I don’t know anything about his past. I do know that he seems to accept that this is not his time. I wish that Rex and the supporters showing up here would do the same thing.
Allen is just as corrupt at Rex. Just cause he’s a Democrat don’t mean he can be trusted, actually if you’ve been paying attention, you’d realize party politics are against the average person. But keep pushing a wash up against Rex and he’ll be keeping office. Seriously, you people are against Rex cause of a joke, not because he’s violated ethics and conflict of interest laws, or used his position to skirt justice for his bear spraying son who he pulled a permit for with honeydew farms, or that he is just plain unintelligent and shouldn’t be making decisions affecting us? Nope grab onto something trival like a joke which makes the Democrat party a joke for trying this lame tactic.
Looks like a trump rally
Is the American food so authentic that it makes you want to kill indians, rape their squaws, molest their children and steal their land?
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🔥🤕
Know your history. The natives did plenty of the aforementioned to other tribes on their own.
Why did they do it? Not because of hate…
I’m sure they were acting under the purest of motives.
I note that the signs supporting ol’ Rex are all professionally printed. Somebody put some money into as “spontaneous” demonstration of support. Makes it look a little orchestrated. Show of public support, or campaign event? Now I’m wondering whether those spontaneous supporters just showed up, or if, like Trump “supporters” they were casted and paid to be there.
To paraphrase Oscar Wilde;
By giving us the opinions of the uneducated, journalism
keeps us in touch with the ignorance of the community.
No where in this article does it say it was a “spontaneous ” demonstration of support. It was planned last week I believe. As far racism and prejudice unfortunately it is practiced world wide. In Mexico the cast system is still unfortunately practiced with the Native Americans being unfairly treated. In Costa Rica the Native Americans and Nicaraguan workers are looked down upon. In Africa the South Africans look down upon the Swazis. Rex made a boneheaded comment and he has apologized.
“Against the assault of laughter, nothing can stand.”
Mark Twain
Rex lost my support more than a year ago now. It is time to say thanks and good bye to the Board of Supervisors.
even the dog is white and what’s up with the hammer and staple gun, did someone forget the stakes?
I am a Proud Gay, Gun Toting Conservative who loves Mexican Food, Cannabis and Abortions. I support Rex, May he Help Make Humboldt Great Again!
So have you not been paying attention the last decade where Rex has driven the local economy down for the purpose of his buddies and family cornering the local cannabis market while using his position to vote on ordinance that directly affect him? No I bet you haven’t paid attention to that!
Rex and the other supervisors are destroying our economy, extorting the population and are going to level the businesses here.they are the worst county government Humboldt has ever seen.the most corrupt, there outright the thieves and backstabbing rip offs.4 years is enough of this thief he needs to go to work with his baby macing son on his legal farm that he conflict of intrest obtained.hes a worm and this little patch of people probably prospered off his corruption
Word! This person speaks truth that I am personally aware of and even had involvement calling out at the county level only for it to be swept under the rug.

We. Are. Finished.
You should look to other sources of information than YouTube videos. Anyone can find anything to back up their wacky viewpoints online. You take that concept to an extreme. We live in a ‘society’.. with certain ideas and morals held in common.
Truth IS extreme.
This is the wrong debate to be having. Bohn has impoverished the county with his policies along with 3 or the other 4 supervisors. His son committed a home invasion, macing kids and a so on, and was never charged. Rather he has been given cannabis permits galore, while Rex goes after his competitors with steep fines to drive them from their homes. These are the kind of issues we should be discussing. Nearly a 10% drop in sales for the entire county with draconian regulations on all kinds of matters that Rex votes for (and they say Democrats are bad on regs) and worse on the horizon. Choose your battles.
Yep. Rex and his sugar daddies aren’t working for the good of the underdogs.
Can you say political stunt? Everyone there is part of the local good ol boy corrupt oligarchy that have been using government against us to enrich and empower themselves, family, and friends. Oh, and bear spray Trevor was there, and I bet Alex Moore too cause Rex is his lackey. These people have enriched themselves at everyone’s expense of a healthy economy and future livelihood while distracting the easily fooled. Rex is corrupt and a jackass who doesn’t represent interests here in District 1. He can pander all he wants but doesn’t change the fact he should be investigated and indicted instead of making decisions affecting the rest of us!
You folks can church it up as much as you want. Bigotry is bigotry. Some of you don’t know you are racist and it shows.
Rex is neither intelligent enough, nor circumspect enough to hold this position.
That said, is anyone running against him?
When Humboldt County stops electing self promoting and self-serving officials, like Estelle Fennel and Rex Bohn, things may begin to improve.
If you only elect ignorant hicks, racists and the wealthy landowners, please don’t complain about your County Government.
Also, some of you people appear to be willing to argue with anybody, or with a tree stump, if you can’t find a person to engage in argument. I sincerely hope you find something else to do, but if you don’t, maybe you should run for supervisor, against Rex…
Support DNA tests for psychopaths in gov’t.
No need for the DNA test – anyone working in government, especially a LE organization is a freaking psychopath!
Good to provide an outlet for the racists to make themselves known.
Good God people, the joke was not racist or bigoted, it was simply stereotypic and there’s a reason races have stereotypes. Just like a lot of rednecks like barbecue and guns, a lot of black people like fried chicken and okra, I like all of it except okra, it’s just slimy and nasty and there’s nothing racist about it..
