Press release from SoHum Health:

To make it easier for seniors in Southern Humboldt to remain safely at home during Humboldt County’s shelter-in-place order, SoHum Health’s hospital and clinic staff are calling seniors residing in the area. The purpose of the calls is to offer a wellness check, and information on grocery delivery service, prescription refills and delivery, and Tele-health visits with their clinic provider, if needed.

Grocery delivery is being coordinated by the Healy Senior Center, in cooperation with local markets and volunteer drivers. Procedures are in place to accept credit cards, and the Southern Humboldt Chamber of Commerce is providing face masks to drivers.

“Routine activities of daily living can continue at home with these services,” according to Dr. Seth Einterz, a provider at SoHum Health’s Community Clinic. “There is no better protection from the COVID-19 virus for seniors than eating well, exercising and avoiding trips to town. Medicare has authorized us to conduct clinic visits over videoconference so that the risk of exposure to the virus is minimized.”

Tele-health visits are being conducted over the Zoom videoconference platform. Zoom can be accessed easily over a computer, tablet or smartphone wherever internet is available, with almost no technical knowledge required.

In addition to local markets, SoHum Health is collaborating with the Healy Senior Center, Southern Humboldt Family Resource Center, Vocality Credit Union, Redwoods Rural Health Center, Southern Humboldt Chamber of Commerce, Bootleg, and the SoHum Health Foundation.

Seniors and others who have critical health issues should not wait for a call. Please call SoHum Health’s Senior Life Solutions at 707-922-6321 to speak with a referral coordinator or to leave a message for a callback.

I’m so sorry for our seniors, not because they’re old but because of the selfs running around that really don’t give a shit about anyone but love everything that has instant gratification.

I would be grateful if you would explain your cryptic statement, but if it has no explanation, that’s ok too…

It’s amusing that SoHum Health now cares about someone, since last week they told everyone to “stay away”…

Without the seniors, there would not be a SoHum Health, and those SNF payments from Medicare kept it going all these years. Now that the SNF business is declining, they feel they must pander to seniors in a crisis, which feels a bit exploitative. Heck, when they actually hire a senior, they treat the employee just a badly as a younger employee, and disrespect experience, just like any other hospital…

Humboldt Seniors, they are not exactly fragile, they can get around, and they know how to get what they need, and, expecting seniors to shelter in place seems a bit delusional, to me…

Seniors, we can cope, and I for one, would not rely on an organization as dysfunctional and disorganized as SHCHD, for much of anything at all, especially high quality healthcare…

So thanks, I guess, SoHum Health, and, please, in the words of Grace Slick, the world’s most eloquent Senior:
“point that thing somewhere else”…

Well, SHCHD, even a clock with a dead battery, is right twice a day…

Nice job of setting up the emergency tent, ladies!

Don’t worry, SHCHD, just keep on going into debt and you, too, will get a piece of the $150 billion. No matter how bad the Administrators are.

Solidarity works, only when the employees work it…

There are homeless seniors in our neighborhood. (I don’t say community because I don’t believe there is one). Are you providing homes in which they can shelter?

Well, after the crisis abates, and, it will abate, they should leave the cute little tent set up, and start a homeless camp, in the courtyard… The homeless and indigent, they are the real reason that you still have a hospital, in GBV. Services dispensed in the ER at JPH to homeless folk who DFO’d, keep your hospital alive!

So thank a homeless guy, as he staggers through your lovely town, mumbling to himself, for supporting your District Hospital with his Medi-Cal and Medicare…

The Major of Fortuna should be contacting businesses and urging them to keep their employees working while they fill the need to help the seniors of this community. What’s so hard?? Provide delivery/pick up services, they keep their employees working, they still sell product. It’s not that hard to follow the guidelines for safety protocol. Which everyone should be doing anyway. Fortuna is the only City that’s not providing this simple service. Why?!
