Mountain Lion ‘Just Chilling” on Bayside Road Porch This Afternoon

What appears to be an adult mountain lion took a stroll through a neighborhood to the southeast of Arcata this afternoon and even relaxed a bit on one porch.

“We saw it around two o’clock,” said Portia Herger who lives with her housemates near Murphy’s Market off Bayside Road–a place which she describes as “pretty busy.”

She told us, “My housemate saw it first and thought it was just a cat.” She said they could just see it’s head. “It was kind of chilling on our porch steps,” she laughed.

Later, it went under their deck and began moving around their yard. “It was making sounds,” she said. “It was chirping almost like a house cat but a lot more powerful.”

She added, “It was there, from when we noticed, until it left…for five…ten minutes.”

I live there and have spotted the one in the photo, and another, larger one, on Buttermilk lane and up in the tiny park off of Beverly twice, in the middle of day just a month ago. Others spotted one also

So thin!!! So sad.
I wonder if this is the one with the broken leg that’s been hanging atound this last week.
I wish it could go to a rehab and get some help.

Could it be looking & calling for it’s baby that got lost? Plus if it had a baby, giveing birth makes them skinny right after.

They follow their food. Deer.
The grasses dry out, so the deer move closer to homes, and areas with water sources with viable vegetation.

Watch your animals and kids.

Lol, and I imagine you look at every car and are like, “that car should be demolished” since 30,000 people die in car wrecks every year compared to 20 mountain lion fatalities in North America in 100 years. I feel so bad for how weak of a person you are, toughen up buttercup. If your scared of a cat no where near you then grow some ovaries and become brave.

Please dont kill it. It the humans fault for taking away their homes.
But still call animal control, so they can relocate it.

Just leave it alone. Live and let live. They have it hard now with humans building all over. If a danger then please relocate this majestic animal. Florida wants them!

How about everyone acknowledge that there could be a mountain lion anywhere at all times and Humboldt county, watch your kids and accept your pet can die at anytime, by a mountain lion or a POS neighbors dog. I don’t get why you post these updates so some delicate weenie can go out there hunting for this cat.
