Vehicle Strikes Pedestrian, Building, and Sign This Morning; Two Sent to Hospital

Vehicle on sidewalk after pedestrian injured

A vehicle is on the sidewalk and a sign is down. A pedestrian was taken to the hospital.

For unknown reasons, a woman driving a Subaru west on 6th Street drifted off the roadway and struck a pedestrian just as they were stepping off the curb at the intersection of 6th and G, according to what a witness said to Eureka Police Officer E. Wilson in an interview with North Coast News this morning.

The female driver collided with one pedestrian and also hit the building and a parking sign. A second pedestrian was not struck.

Both the pedestrian and the driver were sent to the hospital with minor injuries.

The cause of the crash is under investigation but a DUI does not appear to be a factor.

North Coast News’ video from this morning.

Note: An earlier version of this story said the crash occurred on G Street which has now been corrected to 6th.

Erica, it was G. The car had not yet reached F. F St is still 20 feet in front of the car. Unless the car was going backward, then, of course, you are correct.

I was thinking medical issue but the I got to thinking about all the murals that sprung up along 6th. Maybe the person was distracted by those. I know I had to drag myself back to paying attention to driving when I first saw them.

Thanks for not crashing into the only decent candy store in Northern CA!

That said, there has been a bumper (car) crop of wrecks lately! Please drive safely, be careful, be good and be safe!

Makes me wonder if anybody might be driving while impaired?

Well, it’s a progression of the “Peoples Car” designed by Hitler, but other than that, they are cheap, crappy, very ugly and slow, and they don’t handle or stop very well, just like a 1963 VW bug.

I wouldn’t be caught deceased in a Subaru, since they are always getting passed, spit on, and reviled, all while having absolutely zero class… And they seem to be involved in more than a few crashes while having a poor safety rating…

The perfect car for old people and women who know nothing about cars except where the gas goes…

Wow. “Poor safety rating”?

“Subaru leads the pack in a new rating of safest cars, with seven models in the top category …”FORBES

BTW- The Peoples car was NOT ‘designed’ by Hitler. A simple Google would tell you that.

I take it you are far from an automotive ‘expert’?

Trolling much? https://cars.usnews.com/cars-trucks/subaru/forester/safety says it is pretty good. If I didn’t need my 3/4 ton diesel PU, I would probably get one. I did hear that it needs to be driven a bit differently than most on demand 4 wheel drive but, after learning, they are great cars.

Jesus Billy, You’ve obviously never been in a WRX.

And thanks for discounting my 30 years in the automotive industry. I bought it because of my long experience.

They also have a very high safety rating. But you probably discount that as a guvermint conpseericy?

Let me guess, you have a Dodge?

What type of candy do they sell? Do you know if they have milk chocolate covered marsh mellows? Those are amoung my favorite candy and I have a lot of trouble finding them in this area. It really sucks because sometimes my son needs them as he cannot have any other type of candy. Dark chocolate has landed him in the ER two times so milk chocolate is a must. At this point it has become a medical issue and a lawsuit could be filed very easily (and we will win) if this candy is not provided at many more locations around the county. Living in Rio Dell we simply cannot afford to drive to Eureka over three times a week to get his candy-medicine. Perhaps the stores could provide a gas card for our travels? Perhaps the candy could be sent overnight to our home? I’m running out of patience and options here people! My husband Maxwell does not know what to do. Please help us with this. Thanks

I am sure your letter is some joke on “medical necessity” drug use, but, it’s easy to buy some marshmallows and some chocolate of any color you like, melt the choc and pour it upon the marshmallows! You can buy bulk chocolate at Trader Joe’s for about $4.50/lb…

There used to be a candy bar called Rocky Road, that was sort of like this!

Also, at Candy Box, in Marysville, they sell Rocky Road by the pound, in Milk and Dark.

I haven’t been to Partrick’s in a couple minutes, but I believe they may have your drug of choice!

There, now you won’t have to hire Melvin Belli or Perry Mason… Drive Safely please!

This is not a joke at all, and I do not appreciate you calling my son a drug user! He has a medical condition where if he is given dark chocolate he has heart palpitations and has to be admitted to the ER, then ICU. I have consulted many attorneys on the issue and you will be named in the lawsuit if you continue your accusations on here or any other site. You can and will be arrested as well. This is my sons health here, not some joke.

This photograph is on 6th, just before F street (which is a one-way street that heads just south of west. If she was on G street (which runs roughly SE-NW), she turned the corner onto F in a pretty wide arc before she stopped in front of Partricks. She traveled almost a block before coming to a stop.

And, I think there is an age requirement to buy one.

All’s I can say, is they seem to appeal to Millennials who never learned to drive, exactly, and older women who think that “I need a 4WD, to get to work…”

Subaru’s must be tricky to drive, since they crash so often, or maybe it’s the spiritual vortex present in Eureka, the one that is sucking the town down the drain, which is located by the sinkhole on Myrtle Av…

Mr. Bear

They crash so often because they are everywhere in Humboldt due to their durability. Subaru’s and Toyota’s everywhere.

I see Tacoma’s crashing all the time. Is it because they’re “tricky to drive”?

dam “evil” cars. we need to have stricter laws on automobiles . everyone needs to turn in there hot rods, growdozers, 4x4s,dirty oil burning subarus, ego stroking lambos, and anything that might pose a treat to the public like steel bumpers and long antennas. control, regulation, confiscation, taxation and abolishment needs to be put in place so we can keep these evil cars n trucks off the street. they are killing thousands of people alone in california! this needs to stop! now! everyone only needs a electric nissan Leaf with a 55 mph govener on it. anything else is just overcompansating for a small penis. stop the maddness people and turn in your “evil” automobiles.

It’s a matter of risk versus return. The ease of movement provides a lot of opportunity for almost everyone. Therefore almost everyone is willing to put up with the negatives in exchange for easy opportunity. However restricting availability which seems to offer little opportunity for anyone but criminals also seems an easy win. “Seems” is a tricky proposition though. Somethings that seem easy turn out to have unforseen consequences and “easy” also may turn out to be impossible.

I suggest that there is a solution that is easy and effective but is totally resisted by most people. And that is to emphasize good public manners. Now go ahead and laugh without considering what is said. The chorus of “why should I have to” self centeredness will likely defeat civility but it answers a lot of the problems. A person who is civil in general would be unlikely to use either guns or cars carelessly or as weapons unless at the utmost provocation. Which is self control not needing so much outside control.

Stop educating with the constant effort of promoting self worth. Instead promote manners which are easily adopted by most people and allows them to earn their own self worth by displaying civic virtues. Then they don’t need so damn much nagging.

Stop the madness and ban internal combustion engines and plastic PERIOD. Hippycrits abound in Humboldt.

As for the crash, IMHO every f-ing driver in Eureka is distracted. I was nearly run over other day at Burre Center by some young dumbfluck who was looking the other way while driving straight for me! This happens to me at least weekly. Homicidal drivers of HumCo.

I got there right after the car stopped. She appeared to be having a seizure and was not able to unlock the door. Convulsing, drooling and foaming. Then, when the EMT’s arrived she stopped convulsing. She was out of it. Like didnt know where she was, then she unlocked the door.

Wondering where the red light (one of the readers said she ran through) is before Partrick’s on 6th and F. There is a light at 6th and H. Did she run through that light and continue to recklessly drive on down the road? There have been a lot of vehicle mishaps and pedestrians as targets these days. Everybody be aware of your surroundings and be on high alert! It’s getting crazier on the roads these days!

Yes. Ran a red light then went a block, went over the curb, struck a pedestrian, ricocheted of a building, and took down two signs before stopping almost two blocks down from the light.
