101 Closed North of Brookings, Oregon

If you are traveling into Southern Oregon on US 101, be advised that the highway is currently closed at MP 344, approximately 12 miles north of Brooking, due to sunken grade. Choose alternate routes.

According to my maps, Highway 255 is out in eastern Oregon. Is Route 255 the Carpenterville Road?

Carpenterville Road used to be Highway 101 up to the 60s when the current right-of-way was built.

That looks like the Arizona Slide area. It’s been sliding for decades (probably forever, the mountain/hill above has been sloughing down to ocean). You can see the patches from previous repairs.

edit: Yep. It is, though this section is called the ‘Hooskanadan Slide’ .

Wow, who knew the geology of the Cascadia Subduction Zone was a deep state plot. That’s what I call planning ahead.

Fair enough, though my point about the deep state remains.

Wow.. That coastal road actually seemed pretty secure.. I prefer it to the 199, to avoid snow, and much nicer drive.. with a lot of nice restaurants and interesting art and cannabis stores along along the way..
