‘Suspicious’ Commercial Structure Fire in Arcata

Arcata FireThe Arcata Fire Protection District responded to a commercial structure fire at Alliance and Spear at around 1 a.m. on Saturday morning. Scanner Traffic indicated Arcata Fire was being assisted at the scene by Humboldt Bay Fire and Blue Lake Fire. The Arcata Police Department was also on scene. The intersection is closed at the moment. We will update when we have more information. More photos coming soon.

Arcata Fire Battalion Chief Sean Campbell said, “We were dispatched to a structure fire at about 1:12 this morning.”

Campbell said the first engine to arrive on scene found “Alliance Market was 100 percent involved.”

“The fire’s suspicious in nature,” Campbell said.

Arcata Fire is investigating the scene with the help of the Arcata Police Department. Fieldbrook Fire, Humboldt Bay Fire, Cal Fire and Samoa Peninsula Fire responded to assist with the fire. Campbell said no injuries have been reported, but Mad River Ambulance is on scene as a precaution.

Campbell said, “I’m just thankful that we didn’t have any injuries.”

Additionally, Campbell said some resources had to leave the scene to respond to a single vehicle injury traffic collision at about 2 a.m.

Hi, thanks for reporting on this, I was late in turning my scanner on and I missed which building it is that’s burning on the corner of Spear and Alliance. Hoping it’s not the market.

That location is registered at the historical society.

Thank you for the great reporting, I noticed that each engine only responded with two firefighters; is that the normal situation around here? Doesn’t seem like enough firefighters to me. And if so, is that because of funding? Thanks for all the information.
Also I was listening to my scanner last night and I heard an engine number I don’t remember hearing before. Where is 8717 from?
