Vehicle Rolls Onto Roof Along Highway 299 East of Douglas City in Trinity County
A vehicle rolled onto its roof about 6:40 this morning along State Route 299 near the Steel Bridge east of Douglas City Burnt Ranch, temporarily blocking part of the highway but leaving the driver apparently uninjured, according to the California Highway Patrol dispatch log.
Initial reports described a solo black sedan overturned on its roof in the eastbound lane. Passing motorists stopped to assist while emergency responders were dispatched to the scene, according to CHP.
The dispatch log indicates the vehicle came to rest partially blocking the eastbound lane on a partially blind curve. Officers requested traffic be slowed through that area and a tow truck was also requested to remove the overturned vehicle.
The Apple’s Emergency SOS originally reported the crash through satellite. The automated crash detection system notified emergency dispatchers that an iPhone had detected a crash likely resulting in injury in an area without cellular service. The message advised that voice calls were not possible and that text responses could be delayed because the user was communicating via satellite.
A tow truck from 3 Shastas Towing responded to recover the overturned vehicle. CHP logged the tow truck’s arrival shortly before 7:46 a.m.
Traffic was affected while responders worked at the scene, but no injuries were reported.

The Appel’s Emergency SOS reported the accident through satellite with no cell service in that area notifying first responders through an iPhone. I think it is time to switch from my old android phone to a new model iPhone without question. Even though the driver was uninjured he could have been and without that system he could have died. One great piece of technology!
