Hooker Creek Hit and Run

A hit-and-run driver fled the scene of a solo vehicle crash near the Charles Barnum Bridge just north of Hooker Creek at the south end of the Avenue of the Giants early Tuesday morning, leaving behind debris scattered across the highway and no clear leads on their whereabouts.

The California Highway Patrol received the call at 4:41 a.m. and responded to find the vehicle had struck the bridge. Debris was reported across the roadway. A tow truck was requested to recover the vehicle, which remained at the scene.

Officers searched the area from Hooker Creek to Briceland Road but were unable to find the driver. A driver’s license was located inside the abandoned vehicle, which may help investigators identify the suspect.

CHP Officer Christian Zepeda confirmed officers were still canvassing the area hours later. Anyone with information is asked to contact the CHP Garberville area office at 707-932-6100.
