A vegetation fire broke out today near the Covelo Dump, drawing a full wildland response.

The fire, now dubbed the Refuse Fire, was reported around 12:06 p.m. today. It is burning on state responsibility area land off Refuse Rd near Riffle Range Road, according to scanner traffic.

Three CAL FIRE engines and one CAL FIRE dozer are responding to the fire. Air support includes Tanker 90 and an air attack aircraft, both en route to the scene. A Willits Fire crew is also responding.

Scanner traffic describes black smoke coming from the fire. As crews arrived, the fire did not appear to have extended into the vegetation.

Please remember that information gathered from initial reports is subject to revision as more facts become available.

UPDATE 12:35 p.m.: The wildland response has been reduced.
