A hit and run crash in Eureka Wednesday afternoon ended with a foot pursuit, a K-9 and drone search, and an infant left behind in a vehicle, according to scanner traffic and CAD records.

At approximately 3:06 p.m., a blue sports vehicle collided with a black SUV at Vance Street and Eureka Street, according to the CHP cad. The driver of the blue vehicle left the scene on foot. A second witness reported the blue vehicle had been speeding prior to the collision. One vehicle sustained significant front-end damage and the other sustained moderate rear-end damage, according to CAD records. Pacific Towing was requested for vehicle recovery.

Scanner traffic indicated the suspect fled into the surrounding area, prompting authorities to set up a perimeter around the Pine Hill Apartments, with units posted on Vance Avenue and on Broadway where a nearby wooded area extends to. A K-9 unit and a Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office drone were requested to assist in the search.

An infant left in the vehicle was reported safe after the child’s mother arrived on scene.

The suspect was last seen jumping a fence on Eureka Street. He was described as a white male adult, mid-thirties, wearing a long sleeve hoodie, hat, sunglasses, with a full, brown beard.

Eureka Police Department responded and CHP was notified.

The search in ongoing. Please use caution in the area.

Why do they just have a general description of the perp? The mother must know his name and address and may even have a photo.

I do not believe the purpose of this is to be a digital wanted poster, it’s to inform the community of the police activity. Starting a manhunt really doesn’t help the immediate response, as exciting as it seems. It can potentially lead to more injuries.

IMHO:

>”An infant left in the vehicle was reported safe after the child’s mother arrived on scene.”

Imagine LEO knows the name of the perp.
