Woman struck by Vehicle in Fortuna
A woman was injured around 10:52 a.m. today after a vehicle reportedly backed over her on Home Avenue in Fortuna, according to scanner traffic.
Initial reports from bystanders indicated the vehicle went completely over the woman. Despite that, her visible injuries were described as abrasions and contusions.
An ambulance transported the woman to Providence St. Joseph Hospital Eureka for further evaluation.

St. Joes is a trauma center with a higher level of care than Redwood Memorial.
Traumas must be taken to the most appropriate facility. St. Joes is a designated trauma center while Redwood Memorial is not. All about hospital capability I believe.

Could have been in a driveway and it’s rather flat at the upper end.
“Trauma is a surgical disease.” St.Joe’s is the only Level III on the North Coast, which means they have emergency surgery capability. If you need a Level I, that means a life flight to either Redding or San Francisco , or Davis in Sacramento. Death is certainly cheaper, right?

I just hope the lady is ok. She was transported to St. Joes in Eureka which is a level 2 trauma center because Redwood Memorial is not. A good move in my book.
