Discover Humboldt: Table Bluff has a Spring Breeze and Old Foundations
Take a walk with Dock and explore Table Bluff.
While much of California is heating up early, spring on the North Coast is still mostly cool and breezy. And though it’s rainy today, it’s lovely in this latest Discover Humboldt video. Dock heads out to Table Bluff with his partner and his dog Mo to shake off some cabin fever and catch a bit of coastal air.
Before hitting the beach, Dock stops at the remains of the old Table Bluff Lighthouse. Built in 1892 to replace the original Humboldt Harbor Lighthouse—lost to shifting sands and earthquakes—the site now holds only its foundation. The lighthouse itself was later moved to Woodley Island, but the bluff still carries its history, along with remnants of Coast Guard use during World War II.
Nearby, paragliders drift along the bluff, taking advantage of the steady wind. Then it’s down South Jetty Road to the beach, where Mo gets what he came for—wide-open sand, sticks to chase, and room to run.
Dock keeps it simple: it’s their favorite beach because it’s close, quiet, and rarely crowded. Sometimes that’s all you need—some wind, a little history, and a dog running free.

Just a reminder that dogs must be leashed on that beach during plover nesting season. The rangers will glass from the bluff and tickets are expensive.
Yep, it is snowy plover ranger season. I guess they don’t have anything more important to do than sit it their vehicles and watch for plover villians.
