This random opinion is correct. why would someone be traipsing across dangerous broadway after dark? I know the woman personally. Grew up with her on Humboldt hill. critical thinking skills are cool 🤷🏽‍♀️

Many zombies have died crossing Broadway in the “sleepy hollow” area. Some pushing a shopping cart with everything they own. It’s an ugly sight to see a cart treated like that.

You are correct. I personally know the victim.

Broadway after dark is terrifying to drive so many sketchy pedestrians in dark clothing riding dark colored bicycles pulling dark colored trailers. Drive slow.

Wow rough week. And amazing it’s the pedestrians fault. People hit a guy then hit a cop car, two more two days later. I think it’s the people driving that don’t pay any attention. When your synapses are short due to lead you literally can’t pay attention, unfortunately there is alot of short synapses running around.

Broadway keeps getting worse. It’s always been a danger zone . Most pedestrians in the corridor don’t use crosswalks and J walk onto a race track.

This very clearly happened at an intersection with marked crosswalks. You can see them in the photo.

There are also long stretches of Broadway with no marked crosswalks, so that’s why people don’t use them – they aren’t there to use.

As for “most pedestrians”, you’re displaying confirmation bias – you don’t notice the ones who are using marked crosswalks.

Sounds like you display confirmational bias as well.

“Long stretches” 1000 ft is only a few minutes of walking. Also there is nothing except a KFC and Starbucks on the northbound of the road.

Generalizing isn’t any better than over generalizing “Most people” vs people in general. You didn’t specify an amount so it looks like you’re talking about most people. Which isn’t wrong. Most people I see don’t use the crosswalk correctly. I use that road every crossing out from Hawthorne.

Up to 2,000 feet if where you want to go is directly across the street. Well over a third of a mile walk because Caltrans prioritizes vehicle speed over safety. Drivers die and are injured on that corridor too, so we should all of us demand that Caltrans fix. the. corridor.

Caltrans tried to fix the problem in the early 70s by re routing 101 via the golf course route. Merchants who had enough power to stop the project includes Leon’s muffler, Harvey Harper Dailys and bistrins, etc. the good ole boys. So caltrans just walked away.

Bias your sss. Pedestrians are allowed to cross any roadway anywhere including all points of Broadway and they do.

CA Law says “Drivers are expected to avoid an accident if at all possible, even if the pedestrian is violating their duty of care.”
Dangerous drivers are criminals! The world does not exist for you to drive your car fast.

I thought there was a traffic light installed there last year, is this not the case?

Yes there is a traffic light, you can see it in the picture.

It’s been there for several years, but sometimes people make turns without looking for people in the crosswalks.

And sometimes pedestrians cross against the light. Or dart into traffic.

Hard to know what happened when there are no details released.

Even if the pedestrian darts into traffic or crosses at the “wrong time”, it’s still the driver’s responsbility to avoid a collision.

I was walking there last week, going from Costco to the bus stop; like the W. Wabash intersection there are traffic lights, but they don’t have a separate left turn signal, so people are trying to cross in the same space and at the same time people are trying to turn. Ain’t it great? :-/

I sat on a jury a few years ago, and it was a fascinating education of life on the streets west of Broadway in Eureka. The crimes, drug dealing, and partaking in generous amounts of meth, petty theft, burglary, and prostitution begin around midnight and continue until the sun peaks over our Coast Range hills at about 8:00 in the morning. At daybreak, the side effects of meth are softened by injecting heroin, which induces a dreamy slumber until evening, when the partying and crime are resumed.

Go bike the Hiksari at night. That isn’t wildlife you’re hearing. Or seeing.

After running this woman over, this driver went on Facebook to brag about it. I saw him commenting on a post about the issue there. Quote “I would have loved to see you try that move I pulled last night. She should be dead if she’s not now.” he said in a Facebook comment. Quote “No one asked me how I was doing – even the cops and medics. sigh, I’m fine thanks” the driver said after running over a woman with his truck trailer.

Our community is being overrun by rampant and frankly psychotic drivers who see human bodies as nothing more than obstacles to getting back home and sitting on their couch as fast as possible. These drivers are criminals, and the city is enabling them by refusing to take action on this issue.

I live right there and saw what happened. She walked out into traffic without pushing the crosswalk button wearing all black clothing at about 930at night and almost died for it. The guy that hit her almost rolled his trailer trying to miss her. Moral of the story is dont walk even in crosswalk when your light says dont walk. To many people die thinking that everyone is going to see them in time and thats just not the case.
