Crash on Highway 162 West of Covelo

traffic accident
Two vehicles collided around 1:36 p.m. today on Highway 162 near Poonkinney Road west of Covelo. An injured occupant called 911 saying that they were in a white Toyota Camry and they were hit by a SUV. Emergency personnel are reporting that one vehicle is in the roadway, according to the California Highway Patrol Traffic Incident Information Page.

The crash was first detected when an iPhone emergency alert automatically notified dispatch of a possible vehicle crash likely to have resulted in injury near 57934 Covelo Road, which corresponds with Highway 162 in that area.

Additional details about injuries or the cause of the crash were not immediately available.

I hope everyone involved in that accident will be ok. I was not aware that an iPhone could send out a crash alert in an accident. I need a new phone and will sure check into that feature.

They even have a fall alert! I tripped on a curb and had to tell the phone I was okay or it was going to call 911!

Pat, the fall alert is a great feature. Interesting that you have to tell the phone you are ok or it will call 911. Glad you were not injured.
