[Update] Prius in Center Divide Snarls Southbound Highway 101 Traffic Between Herrick Avenue and Humboldt Hill

Southbound Highway 101 traffic between Herrick Avenue and the Humboldt Hill exit came to a near standstill Thursday afternoon after a Prius came to rest in the center divide, according to scanner traffic and multiple reports from the Humboldt County on Alert Facebook page.

The left lane of southbound Highway 101 was closed just before the Humboldt Hill exit, forcing traffic to merge into the right lane and creating significant backup in the corridor. A Caltrans traffic camera shows the traffic jam and a tow company assisting a vehicle in the center divider.

Multiple witnesses reported seeing the vehicle in the grassy median with California Highway Patrol units on scene with lights activated.

The cause of the incident and any possible injuries are unknown at this time.

Please remember that information gathered from initial reports is subject to revision as more facts become available.

Update: Traffic cameras indicate the scene has been cleared and traffic is flowing smoothly.

C.H.P. units with patrols units with lights activated, was the cause of the back up. most people have seen a car stopped on the side of the highway. I wonder if they were thinking about shutting down the airport?? boy this is already turning out to be quite an exciting day.
