Gualala Man Dies in Crash on Highway 1
Press release from CHP Ukiah:
On February 16, 2026, at approximately 1258 hours, the California Highway Patrol responded to a solo vehicle crash on SR-1 near mile post marker 8.5. Preliminary investigation indicates that a solo male driver, a resident of Gualala, CA, was traveling northbound on SR-1 in his 2003 GMC Sierra. For reasons still under investigation, the GMC lost control and collided into a tree. Emergency medical services and law enforcement personnel responded and despite lifesaving efforts, the driver was pronounced deceased by medical personnel on scene.
The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The California Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the cause of the crash. Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in this crash.
The Ukiah CHP Area would like to thank the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office, South Coast Fire Department, Redwood Coast Fire Department, and South Coast Ambulance for their assistance at the scene.
