Discover Humboldt: Prairie Creek Redwoods

Dock’s latest Discover Humboldt episode gives viewers a look at the beautiful Prairie Creek Redwoods.

After a stretch of very rainy winter storms, Dock caught a welcome break in the weather—and didn’t waste it. He, his wife, Mekko, and their dog headed north to Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park, just outside Orick, to spend some quiet time walking among Northern Humboldt’s giant old-growth redwoods.

In this episode, Dock takes viewers along peaceful forest trails, past fallen giants, and into the hushed, misty calm that settles over the redwoods after a storm. Winter shows Prairie Creek at its most intimate: fewer people, fog drifting between trunks, storm runoff trickling through the forest, and sudden sunbeams breaking through the canopy.

One highlight of the walk is a stop at one of the park’s most distinctive landmarks—the Corkscrew Tree—its twisted form standing out even among trees that have been growing for centuries.

No rush, no crowds, just the presence of redwoods and the joy of being there.

I’m here to tell you the vacation and sun brought summer like crowds yesterday. I was shocked and amazed. But then again, it’s nice to know I’m not the only one who loves the place.

I turned it off when he used term “wife” in the first 15 seconds. We should be using the term “partner” in 2025. Disgusting.

What if their partner is also their wife? Did you ask her how she feels about it? Does the word “husband” also disgust you? You’ve got some issues, man if that’s what you get out of the whole video that you didn’t bother to keep watching.

I find using “partner” rather than “wife” to be insulting to my wife. I have had “partners”, that is, people who owned an equity stake in my businesses. A completely different thing.
