How incredibly sad.
Our ability to function as wetlands, to host wildlife and to create resilience against sea-level rise is absolutely dependent on keeping the dunes vegetated.

We were told that the Eurograss was ‘displacing’ our natives. That isn’t true at all.
The Eurograss stabilizes the sand enough that our natives can move into the dunes and survive. If left alone the natives would eventually out-compete the Eurograss.

The damages from the removal of vegetation on the shore extend through our hind dunes, there is now a blowout quarter mile wide in our ancient dune system due to removal of vegetation on the frontal dunes.

The hind dune is thousands and thousands of years old. We don’t have environmentalists caring for our shoreline, we have idealogues with such a hatred for a plant that they are unable to see the incredible losses. I am learning to despise these charlatans.

After the storms in the 60’s on the east coast dune grass is protected. In places like NJ board walks are built to protect the grass to prevent flooding. Access to beaches are over the grass as it has been seen that it builds dunes and saves property and wetlands.

I asked Bob Merrill an earlier head of the local Coastal Commission, how have our coastal projects adapted to the concept of Sea-Level Rise (SLR)? He replied, “They haven’t” You can ask the current head and get the same answer a decade later

Our 3rd District Supervisor sits on the Coastal Commission when we are losing our natural resources by leaps and bounds, he says nothing.
Something stinky here Mike Wilson, if you truly gave a damn, you’d speak out against the removal of vegetation during a period of SLR.
