More than 300 people gathered outside the Humboldt County Courthouse in Eureka on Monday for the “Workers Over Billionaires” protest, part of a nationwide Labor Day mobilization led by the AFL-CIO and dozens of other organizations.

The action was one of about 1,000 rallies, marches, and events across the country protesting what demonstrators describe as an abuse of power by the executive office.

Locally, the courthouse steps were filled with chants, signs, and a canned food drive organized by Eureka Food Not Bombs.

Among those in attendance was former Northern California legislator Wes Chesbro, who came with his wife and spoke in a brief interview with us about why he joined the protest.

“It’s an important day for protest. Unfortunately, these days, every day is the day where we need to be protesting. Got to stop this madness,” Chesbro said.

On the issue of immigration, he remarked, “We’re all immigrants. Unless you’re a Native American indigenous person, your people came from somewhere. And it’s ridiculous, and sinful and awful the way we’re treating people who are coming here for a better life the way our ancestors did.”

Asked about the Trump administration’s use of National Guard members in immigration enforcement, Chesbro was direct: “They’re basically becoming the secret police. You know, ICE first and now the military. It’s bad enough to use ICE the way that they’re being used, but to use the military for that is unconstitutional, unthinkable, and needs to stop.”

Though turnout at the courthouse was modest compared to national rallies, Chesbro said he was encouraged. “Any amount of shaking our fist at what’s going on in Washington has to be considered a success.”

And here come the haters. Get over it. These people are standing up for what they believe in and exercising their Constitutional right to protest.

Didn’t effect you so quit whining about it. Next time get out and counter protest if you don’t like what they are doing.

People have the right to protest government all they want. But it would help others not hate them if they (at least the pro-illegal immigrant ones out of that grab bag of causes) expressed as much concern for their fellow citizens as they seem concerned for non-citizens breaking the country’s laws. That’s some group of haters right there.

Never once do those signs say anything about illegal immigrants. You know the ones Biden kindly automated the immigration process out of existence for. There would be no President Trump if the Democrats honored the very laws they created.

Strange the people who protest worker’s over billionaires on Labor Day are so mindless about importing scab labor by the millions. And who knew “Wesley Chesbro is one of the richest Politician from United States. According to our analysis, Wikipedia, Forbes & Business Insider, Wesley Chesbro ‘s net worth $5 Million. (Last Update: December 11, 2023)?”

Illegal immigrants are the problem. They broke the law and it is being enforced now. Thank you President Trump. Big ag, big meat, big retail, big oil, all take a hit on this low wage scab labor. And these protester are actually protesting for the billionaires.

Don’t blame Trump about this, because it’s actually the Democrats that have decided that if undocumented adult immigrants, aged 19-59 don’t pay the newly enacted $30 a month, beginning, July 1, 2027, for those with “unsatisfactory immigration status”,

”Failure to pay will result in a reduction of benefits to emergency and pregnancy care, ➡️ “ONLY” ⬅️ .

[Emphasis mine…]

[(“ONLY”…??? WTF…??? Like, “emergency and pregnancy care”, is somehow INSIGNIFICANT…??? )]

Now Democrats are withholding emergency and pregnancy care benefits to undocumented immigrants based on an INABILITY to PAY…???

Now GAVIN NEWSOM’s Democrats are withholding emergency and pregnancy care benefits to undocumented immigrants,. NOT BECAUSE THEY AREN’T SICK ENOUGH, BUT BECAUSE THEY AREN’T RICH ENOUGH…???

THAT’S PRETTY DAMN SICK…!!!

Where is the LIBERALS FAMILIAR CONCERTED SKIVVY SOILING OUTRAGE…???

HOW will the Democrat’s decision to WITHHOLD EMERGENCY AND PREGNANCY CARE BENEFITS to undocumented immigrants, that don’t pay, NOT BE PUTTING THEIR LIVES IN IMMEDIATE DANGER…!!!???

THE LEAST THE DEMOCRATS SHOULD DO IS TO MAKE SURE TO GIVE THEM A BUCKET FILLED WITH TOWELS JUST IN CASE SOMETHING HAPPENS…!!!2

“Yes, the Medi-Cal cuts in California’s 2025–2026 budget will disproportionately affect undocumented immigrants. The cuts specifically target the recent expansion of full-scope Medi-Cal coverage to undocumented adults, creating new barriers to access.
Specific impacts on undocumented immigrant

Enrollment freeze:

Starting in January 2026, new enrollment for full-scope Medi-Cal will be frozen for undocumented adults aged 19 and older. Immigrants already enrolled can keep their coverage if they complete their annual renewal, but those who lose it will be unable to re-enroll

➡️ Monthly premiums: Beginning July 1, 2027, undocumented adults ages 19–59 who do not have satisfactory immigration status must pay a $30 monthly premium to maintain their full-scope Medi-Cal coverage. Failure to pay will result in a reduction of benefits to emergency and pregnancy care only ⬅️

Reduced benefits

Elimination of dental care:

Full-scope dental benefits for undocumented adults will be eliminated starting July 1, 2026. Coverage for children and pregnant people is not affected

➡️ [”Takeaway ” ” Hack” ] ⬅️

➡️ [If you are an undocumented immigrant adult in need of free dental care after July 1, 2026, just get knocked up first, get that pesky cavity filled, (no pun intended), and then just get a follow up abortion, all, conveniently, on the US Taxpayers dime… ⬅️ ]

[No “out of pocket”]

[Act fast, reproductive limits may ultimately apply.]

End of long-term care:

Long-term care benefits for undocumented adults are being eliminated, which will impact elderly and disabled [undocumented] immigrants

Cuts to safety-net providers:

Funding reductions to Federally Qualified Health Centers and rural health clinics will decrease reimbursement rates for services provided to undocumented Californians. This could strain the finances of safety-net providers and jeopardize their ability to offer services.

Wider effects on health care

Financial burden on clinics: Reduced funding for clinics serving immigrant populations and shifting reimbursements to a fee-for-service model could destabilize the safety-net health care system

Increased costs for everyone:

Critics warn that the cuts will likely increase emergency room visits and drive up long-term health care costs for the entire state, reversing progress toward health equity

Impact on other services:

The budget deal also includes reductions to other services that will broadly affect Medi-Cal enrollees, such as provider payment reductions and changes to pharmacy benefits.”

Trump’s fault as opposed to the illegal immigrants and those that hire them? This is like the overly digested excusing for drug dealers just filling a demand. Raise wages for citizens and penalize those who try to get by cheap by hiring illegal immigrants. If illegality is required to operate a business, then the problem is not one of supply and demand. It is one of a society that is dysfunctional and doesn’t know it.

Seems like you favor tit for tat. Trump is just the latest escalation in a string of partisan actions.

For a bunch of people who want the “good old days” of the 1950s to come back, you all seem to forget that the highest income rate in the ’50s was 92% ( in 1952), It was then lowered to 91% for the rest of the decade. It was a marginal tax rate, so any thing over 200,000 in those years (over a couple of million in today’s dollars).

That means, with deductions and loopholes, what they actually paid was in the 40s percentiles. Today’s billionaires average 24%, which is lower than the average taxpayer (you and me).

So, in regards to taxes, I’d be okay with returning to the “good old days” of the very anti-communist 1950s.

The problem is not that billionaires are rich but aren’t taxed enough but that the government has not protected the average citizen’s work and privileges so that it has kept up. You remember all that globalization crap that sent earnings overseas? That darling of the liberal posturing of how cosmopolitan American politics had become? That Karl Marx vision of “workers unite?”

Well it succeeded by shafting the average American citizen and sending their income, sent soaring by being the remaining functional industrialized country standing after WWII, everywhere else. You don’t need to “tax the rich” as much as you need the better wages of working citizens to be deducted from the income of the rich. That would effectively reduce the richest wherewithal and make work pay for those working. Government largess is no substitute for earning power. That 90 tax rate was the result of paying off debt created by that war that sent ordinary people’s income soaring. It was not the cause of it. The government colluded with the wealth to see that happened. It does not deserve to be trusted with more taxes. That would only lead to more shafting, more rich and more poor.

“After adjusting for inflation, however, today’s average hourly wage has just about the same purchasing power it did in 1978, following a long slide in the 1980s and early 1990s and bumpy, inconsistent growth since then. In fact, in real terms average hourly earnings peaked more than 45 years ago: The $4.03-an-hour rate recorded in January 1973 had the same purchasing power that $23.68 would today.”
“If you’re earning the minimum wage today, your purchasing power is actually less compared to the 1950s, when adjusted for inflation. This means that, comparatively, a minimum wage worker in the 1950s could afford more with their income than a minimum wage worker today.”

Yes, everybody knows that minimum wage purchasing power is less today. Not news.
Don’t forget that it was the Reagan era that started the exodus of jobs to China.
And yes, billionaires ARE a big part of the problem. They own the politicians making the rules. There’s no need for a human being to have anywhere near that much money.
You’re right that the gov can’t be trusted with tax money. Look how much they lavish on the military industrial complex. Trump wants to build a nuke shield over the U.S. that will cost a trillion, and isn’t even workable. But I imagine he will have stock in the companies building it.

“Workers over billionaires” Wes shows up to protest with the “little people”. The puppets of the politicians.

Have you stopped to look at the money our politicians are making off “public service”? Politicians do very little to provide for anyone but themselves. They are all involved in the NGOs that supposely are providing for the homeless and needy. Donations go to these NGOs and get filteted back to politicians.

The 100 million dollar LA fire “victim” fund raiser is a perfect example. Politician family and “friends” are associated with these NGOs to “provide assistance” to victims. The assistance is almost always “helping” them file claims, obtain permits, and “get thru the process of rebuilding”. This is assistance to get thru bureaucratic rules and regulations that the politicians place on us, regulations that the politicians are putting in place for their “special interest friends”. The assistance that the politicians should be provided for free, and regulations that the politicians can and should be relaxing to help the victims of these disasters.

So the “workers over billionaires” protests that these politicians support, to continue their wealth, are just another way of pulling the strings to keep them and their billionaire supporters in control of the workers.

Why else do we see that these “protests” seem to be nothing more than a “bitch session” because they are never focussed on a single group or problem. There is never any productive debate or accomplishment, only name calling, propaganda, and when needed, agitators to stir up violence or vandalism. And all the while those billionaires and politicians that you are complaining about are using those protests to push their agendas to continue their getting richer as the workers get poorer.

Billionaires are not the problem, you could take every last dollar from every millionaire and billionaire in the country and wouldn’t even fund the federal budget for a year. The problem is the devaluation of our currency, and this isn’t going to stop until we stop printing money and spending our money like it has no value. Inflation has increased by over 600% since going off the gold standard in 1971..
