Fire crews rushed to the 2700 block of Road E in Redwood Valley in Mendocino County on Saturday afternoon after scanner traffic at 12:49 p.m. reported smoke and flames coming from a residence at 2791 Road E. People in the area also reported hearing explosions around the time the fire broke out.
Crews arriving on scene confirmed an active structure fire with the potential to spread into nearby vegetation.
A live feed from an AlertCalifornia wildfire camera showed black smoke billowing from the home and flames breaking through the roof.

UPDATE 1:19 p.m.: Flames and smoke from the house fire on the 2700 block of Road E appeared to be decreasing in intensity on an AlertCalifornia wildfire camera. The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office issued a situational awareness notice advising the public of a structure fire near Road E and Colony Drive in Redwood Valley. Illegal BHO lab?
That’s what happens when you go away and leave the cats in charge.
No this was my mom’s house. She had chickens and turkeys on property with two dogs inside that probably didnt make it. She had a disabled daughter i side that she luckily was able to get out.
So sorry Melissa. This side death and injury losing a home is the worst thing that can happen.
Glad they got out! So sorry to hear about the dogs- I love dogs. I’m so sorry for your family’s loss. It sounds like a terrible nightmare. I’m glad your Mom remained courageous and rational in getting her daughter to safety…
I have a friend who has a houseful of stuff she’s trying to find homes for
Give me text and I’ll put you in touch. So sorry about her catastrophe!
I’m so sorry! It is so devastating to lose a home to fire. Thank goodness she and your sister are okay. Prayers.
I’m assuming Redwood Valley down south, not off 299.
I should have made that clear. I’ve added that in now.
Someone’s whole day is ruined
I am so very sorry that the folks that owned that home have probably lost everything in the fire. I pray all the occupants and pets made it out safely. Thank you to the firefighter’s for doing what they could to help save the home.
Nice looking farm. Looks like veggies. Maybe some Alfalfa. Don’t know what caused the dark smoke. Pretty typical of fires before water is applied.
whats nice about monocropped fields? dead bees? importing fertilizer to replace depleted soil?
Hi I have a friend who is trying to get rid of household goods perhaps your mother can use some help after the destruction of her home. My name is Rosie and my number is 7075404244
Sory for the loss…Sometimes propane tanks explode during fires… such as the tank on my FB page from the Valley Fire (Middletown, Lake Co)
