Paving Work on Bell Springs Road Expected to Cause Delays Thursday and Friday

Road Work Ahead Public WorksDrivers traveling Bell Springs Road should plan for delays this week as Van Meter Construction performs paving work at two locations along the narrow mountain route.

According to Brett Van Meter, crews will be paving at milepost 2.20 on Thursday and at milepost 4.96 on Friday. Work will take place between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. both days.

“These are narrow places in the road,” Brett noted, “and motorists should expect up to one-hour delays.” He added that delays may be longer on Friday, but the crew will “try to get traffic through as fast as we can.”

Drivers are encouraged to plan accordingly and allow extra travel time.

Now is that chip seal or pavement? That road is usually chip seal. I don’t think that road has ever been paved.

BSR is mostly dirt and gravel. They have been planning to chip seal it for years, but it has never happened.

Anything they can lay down pavement, chip seal, etc., will be a big improvement to that sadly neglected road. Please cut the works a little slack if you have to wait for about one hour to get through. I am sure they will appreciate it.

We will be paving mp 4.96 tomorrow. That is the narrow section north of new Harris store. We expect asphalt to hit the ground about 10:30. By 11:00 it will be closed.

Brett, thank you very much for the update. Off the mark a little here, but are you related to the late John Van Meter?
