Around 4:30 p.m. today, a residential structure fire was reported in the 1800 block of Archer Road in McKinleyville. According to scanner traffic, the caller stated they saw flames coming from underneath the home.
An all-call was issued, drawing a multi-agency response that included units from Arcata Fire District, Blue Lake Volunteer Fire Department, Fieldbrook Volunteer Fire Department, and Westhaven Volunteer Fire Department.
The first crew on scene confirmed active fire in the crawl space of a single-story, single-family residence. Firefighters quickly initiated an aggressive fire attack to contain the blaze.
The incident commander later reported that the fire had originated as a vegetation fire, which then spread to the home—igniting the exterior wall and making its way into the crawl space. Despite the initial concern, the IC indicated the situation could be managed with the resources already on hand.
Please remember that information gathered from initial reports is subject to revision as more facts become available.
