CAL FIRE Air Attack 120 departed from the quarter-acre Fork Fire northeast of Ruth Lake, which had already been contained, to provide air support to the Miller Fire, located north of Miller Place and McClellan Place. Tankers 94 and 96 out of Redding assisted with the initial attack on the fire prior to sunset, when most CAL FIRE aircraft are typically grounded for safety reasons.
According to Watch Duty, the fire is currently estimated at 3 to 5 acres, burning in heavy brush and standing dead trees (snags).
The Miller Fire is the largest of at least four suspected lightning-caused fires reported today in western Trinity County. A lightning cell was mapped over the region around 6 p.m.
We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.

FYI, all the maps (including what the Hotshots I led in had) reporting the fire were 1.5 miles off and on the wrong side of the South Fork Trinity. If you know this country and limited road access that was like 10 normal miles….WAY OFF! Where the fire actually was was a trail one car wide with no turnaround I almost went down thinking it was way far away, luckily the circling planes, choppers and tankers along with the smoke column told me otherwise. Holy shit I am never trusting one of those maps again till I see the heat signature!
