[UPDATE 7 p.m.] Breaking News: Officer-Involved Shooting Reported Near Bear River Casino in Loleta

Multiple Humboldt County Sheriff deputies are responding to an officer-involved shooting near the Bear River Casino, southeast of Loleta. Lt. Jesse Taylor who is at the scene has confirmed that one person is receiving medical treatment. “There is no concern for public safety,” he told us.
Scanner traffic indicates that a 30-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the chest is being transported to the hospital. CPR was in progress earlier. No officers were reported injured in the incident. The incident began about 3:30 p.m.
The shooting occurred near the Bear River Recreation Center, located across from the Pump and Play gas station and smoke shop, just west south of the casino complex. The incident may have begun with a report of a 30-year-old male bleeding from his arm at the same location, though it is unclear whether the two incidents are related.
A Code 33—indicating restricted radio traffic for emergency response—has been issued.
UPDATE 4:03 p.m.: The Code 33 has been revoked and normal radio traffic is in place.

I passed 10 LEO vehicles runnig lights and sirens between Loleta and Myrtle Avenue Eureka. I wondered what happened with such a big response.
Any officer involved shooting will bring an all hands on deck response —likely a Coroners case by now — they don’t start CPR if the patient is breathing.
