With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Haley Walund, who left this world too soon at the age of 47. Born in Eureka, CA, on August 12, 1977, she was a force of nature—tough, loving, and fiercely loyal to those she held dear. She now rests in heaven, reunited with her father Steven Walund, brother Riley Walund, grandparents and other loving family members.
Haley grew up in Eureka, attending Grant Elementary and Winship Junior High before graduating from Eureka High School. She was a natural athlete like her father, excelling in sports from a young age. After high school, she attended Shasta College in Redding CA, where she excelled on the women’s softball team. Her competitive spirit and determination earned her numerous awards and the admiration of teammates and coaches. Like her father, she kept the local newspapers busy with countless articles highlighting their athletic achievements.
After graduating from Shasta College, Haley moved to Albuquerque, NM, where she discovered her passion for healthcare. She pursued her education there, earning her ultrasound technician license. Eventually, she returned to Redding, CA, where she dedicated herself to caring for others as part of the team at Mercy Hospital.
Beyond athletics and her career, Haley was a woman of deep faith and personal struggles. Those who truly knew her understood that she battled fiercely. But through it all, she held on with resilience, fighting with everything she had. A devoted member of Bethel Church in Redding, CA, her faith was as strong as her will.
One of her greatest joys in recent years was spending early mornings on her back porch, soaking in the quiet moments by reading and finding peace in life’s simple joys, while watching her two cats and new puppy play in the yard.
Haley leaves behind her loving mother Lynn Breckner, stepfather Bruce Breckner, brother Eric Walund, nephews, and a large extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins, all of whom will miss her deeply.
Her strength, love, and fighting spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all the friends and loved ones who have offered their support, love, and kindness during this difficult time. Your compassion has been a source of comfort and strength, and they are deeply grateful for each and every one of you.

Lynn I am so sorry for your loss.
Lynn, I’m so sorry for your loss, my thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.
I have just learned of Haley’s passing and am greatly affected by it. She lived a couple miles down the road and I wish she could have reached out to me if she needed someone to talk to. We were pickleball friends at least and she was to come over and meet my sister and pets as I had met her’s at her house. She had asked that we might take some trips together when she felt well enough to do so. She had asked me to play in a pickleball tournament in Arcata with her and attend her family reunion going on that weekend. Alas, I did not because she wasn’t feeling that well by tournament arrived and I didn’t want to but in. Wish I had gone in retrospect. At least we had good times together for the limited time we had and I especially enjoyed making her laugh. VTY, Andy.
