[UPDATE 6:16 p.m.] One Injured After Crash on 101 North of Myers Flat

A semi with a box trailer struck a tree north of Myers Flat and impacted traffic on northbound Highway 101 this evening, according to the CHP Traffic Incident Information Page. The crash occurred just before 5:15 p.m. and reportedly involved Safeway truck that came to rest partially on the roadside.
The driver is reported to be trapped and injured. According to reports over the scanner, a medevac helicopter was requested but declined due to weather. No other air ambulances available.
Initial reports from CHP indicated that the semi-truck, traveling southbound, veered into the northbound lanes before colliding with a tree. The trailer, reported to be empty, ended up facing traffic while the nose of the truck was lodged into the hillside.
By 5:39 PM, a fire unit had arrived on the scene, according to CHP updates. A request for heavy-duty tow services (1185) to recover the big rig was also made. Despite the severity of the crash, there were no initial reports of life-threatening injuries, although medical attention was reportedly required.
Please remember that this story is unfolding. Information is being reported as we gather it. However, some of the information coming from witnesses and initial official reports could be wrong. We will do our best to get the facts but, in the case that something is inaccurate, we will update with correct information as soon as we can.

Anyone know if the road is open?
It is a bad time to be on the road. Stay where you are at.
Hwy 101 between Myers Flat and Weott is badly in need of an upgrade. It’s been resurfaced many times and can be dangerous with rain.
The “Bermuda Triangle” of Highway 101.
It used to be so much worse but it’s obviously still a major problem. It’s like the road surface is banked wrong on the turns or something. I white-knuckle it through there and through the entire stretch from Leggett to Benbow.
I don’t care about the damage to the Safeway truck, but I pray the driver will be ok. Another case of a medevac chopper refusing to fly because of the weather. That could have very well cost the driver his life. I think we need some highly trained medevac pilots that are skill in flying in bad weather. They sure could learn a thing or two from our Coast Guard men and women who fly, when necessary, regardless of the weather.
The U.S. Coast Guard is a branch of the U.S. Armed Forces. As such, they took an oath as I and millions of others did, to put their lives on the line, if needed, in service to The United States of America. They have a baseline mindset that some, such as returning President Donald J. Trump, cannot begin to comprehend. But you and I can!
The USCG gets the best equipment and training that the taxpayers can buy. They are sworn to risk their lives to save others, regardless of circumstances. They have to go out, they don’t have to come back.
As for private medevac businesses, I don’t know what their state of equipment or training or pilot readiness is. That’s the issue.
“They have a baseline mindset that some, such as returning President Donald J. Trump, cannot begin to comprehend.” Trump obviously understands but you don’t sore loser…MAGA
Private medevac businesses should be required to have their pilots trained by a special branch (if one was created) by the Coast Guard. If you fail to pass the tests needed, you DON’T FLY!
