[Yesterday], the Steering and Policy Committee voted for U.S. Representative Jared Huffman (CA-02) as Ranking Member of the House Natural Resources Committee by an overwhelming majority. This recommendation will now go to the full Democratic Caucus for a vote [today], December 17, 2024.

“It’s an incredible honor to receive this recommendation and vote of confidence from the Steering and Policy Committee, and it gives us significant momentum heading into tomorrow’s vote of the full caucus. I am grateful that my proven record, longstanding leadership and commitment to the committee is being recognized by my colleagues,” said Rep. Huffman. “Natural Resources has been my highest priority since I came to Congress 12 years ago. It is my life’s work – water, wildlife, fisheries, public lands, tribal issues – and what I know and love the best. I am ready to roll up my sleeves and do the work to protect our treasured natural resources, lift up tribal and frontline communities, and lead us as a team to effectively fight against Trump’s Project 2025 agenda and ensure we win back the House.”

Heh… It will be a short appointment… for a month or so.
Reckon we will see what kind of damage he can do in that amount of time.

The appointment is not for committee chair, as you seem to think. And, if he gets it, it’s for the next session of Congress – not the last month of the current one.

The ‘drill baby, drill’ mentality is the exact kind of thing we need resistance against.

That phrase is only uttered by folks who do not understand the market forces at play, including the idiot that just got elected president.

If they want to drill in Southern California I’m ok with it. But I guarantee they will drill in our back yard and send the profits to San Francisco and Los Angeles. Honestly I don’t think there’s much oil to drill off our coast anyway.

If global warming is a real thing then why are all the rich elite that supoort it buying beach front property that will supposedly be under water soon?

Obama bought the.old estate in Hawaii where Magnum PI was filmed.
Why do the rich elite fly around in private jets 🤔 if they are so enviromentally friendly?

It’s a bullshit power grab. The climate changes all the time. Ever hear of the ice age? Why was arizona a tropical jungle at one time. How is taxing the little guy going to chage it?

Why don’t these rich socilist give up their big estate tear it down and build apartment complexes on the property and live in one while letting low income seniors live in the others for free or at least very little cost?

It really feels like you’re trying (but failing pathetically) to make a point.
What does Obama’s, or any other wealthy person’s, real estate investment have too do with the scientific consensus that humans are impacting the climate?

There is no scientific consensus and u r very well aware of that! Since you stated you don’t ride the bus because they suck and you live miles away, have you considered getting up earlier and walking those miles to the bus stop. People who preach buses and bikes need to walk the talk, otherwise they are just carnival barkers seeking attention. Kinda like Obama living next to an ocean in Hawaii which actually is not rising. Does he know something you don’t? Answer: yes, he is lying because he is a narcissist and understands their are millions of gullible humans looking for a false savior.

“. . . Millions of gullible humans looking for a false savior.” Wow, that’s an amazing statement from a MAGA devotee. My nominee for Freudian Slip of The Year. Well, we slipped in the shit and here we are. We got what you voted for. I would take Obama back in a hot minute.

More than 99.9% of peer-reviewed scientific papers agree that climate change is mainly caused by humans, according to a new survey of 88,125 climate-related studies.” https://news.cornell.edu/stories/2021/10/more-999-studies-agree-humans-caused-climate-change

That shows an alarming misunderstanding of oil and gas drilling in the US. We are already producing more oil and gas in the US than ever and there’s remarkable little interest by the oil and gas companies to accelerate drilling because the price forecast doesn’t support it.

Huff represents the bay area and not the north coast. NorCal got screwed when redistricting happened.

You’re aware that Huffman won overwhelmingly in Humboldt County?

Maybe not if you remove the Humboldt State (er… Cal Poly ?) voters.
Lots of SF/LA rip-off’s around here too.

Unfortunately, most of Humboldt County is now supported by incoming government money.
A guess: No govt money = 50% (+-) unemployment.
Might be more, but I dunno.

Oh well.

Yeah, let’s get rid of Cal Poly-Humboldt and watch the local economy absolutely take a dump — housing prices would crash and any equity you have would disappear, unemployment would skyrocket and local businesses would go under. Sounds like a great dream to achieve Republican dystopia.

Huffman won Humboldt County by more than 19,000 votes.
HSU has an enrolment of less than 5,000.

Humboldt county supervisors should be ashamed of themselves, but I don’t think they have figured out how bad they screwed up the economy.

Look at his background. He represents the environmental lobby and nothing else. He doesn’t care about you anymore than any other “lifelong” politician does. The only thing I’d like to see him appointed to is unemployment.
