Good Samaritan Helps Extinguish Fire Started from a Vehicle Near Blue Lake
With fires burning across the state, Cal Fire is quick to jump on any report of a fire. Just this afternoon, around 2:30 p.m., a full wildland fire response was issued after a vehicle fire with spread to the vegetation was reported on the Blue Lake offramp of Highway 299.
Multiple fire agencies responded to the area as well as Cal Fire air support, ready to squash the fire before it got established. The support was not needed though, and Tanker 96 returned to Rohnerville with its load of retardant still onboard.
A good Samaritan with a water tender was able to extinguish the grass fire near the engulfed vehicle. Fire personnel then handled the vehicle fire, and all incoming units were canceled, including aircraft.
Blue Lake Fire remains on scene as firefighters mop up the area. Please use caution if traveling on Highway 299 in the Blue Lake region.

Awesome!
So thankful to all who responded. As we all know, the huge Park fire was started by a car on fire, too.
Yes it was. But does anyone know how this vehicle became “engulfed”? Or if the driver is safe?
He was flying down 299 at close to 100 mph and he blew up the engine in a Mercedes, setting a fire in the median near Murphy’s. The car finally became engulfed and he abandoned the car and fled the scene.
Not only abandoned the flaming vehicle, he pushed it down a ravine. Never even tried to extinguish the fire.
the parks fire , the car was set on fire, and pushed down a ravine.
Kudos to all. This could have been a disaster
Thank you, good Samaritan for using your water tender to stop the grass fire that started from the burning vehicle. I do hope law enforcement will catch the driver that started the fire with his flaming Mercedes. This crazy jackass needs to be removed from our roads!
