There is usually quite a bit of traffic in that area going both North and South. If indeed the bicycle rider was a pedestrian, the law requires all moving vehicles to stop until the pedestrian has completely crossed the roadway. I am sorry the rider was hit and suffered right knee pain. Hope the rider will be fine. I also feel bad for the person that hit the rider, but maybe the driver did not see the rider until the last second. I cannot lay blame on either person because I was not there.

When I drive, I’m 10000% sober, 1000% paying attention to absolutely every single side of my vehicle and I make damn sure no one or anything else without being inside a car is even close enough to MAYBE get hit, hell no an as far away enough so that there’s literally NO chance to “whoops, didn’t see them in time”. Absolutely no way possible, I would never be able to live with myself if I accidentally hit a kid, animal or anything else alive, causing harm. I’m so incredibly proud of how I drive so proud that I’ve never even come close to anything like this. I hope all involved are okay safe and sound on both sides! It’s why it’s called ACCIDENT. Accidents do happen especially in congested situations! Have a wonderful weekend everyone ?

Granted, I have seen a “homeless” guy twice, both times the same guy, get “hit” by a vehicle at that same spot while on a bicycle, granted, both times was about 50 feet up the hill not at the real intersection. Was he about 55, white beard, skinny?
Thing is, if it is the same person, publishing this article is… detrimental

Caltrans has tried to fix the roads, but every time they try it is shot down by the people. You can’t blame Caltrans by say more blood on their hands. Put the blood where it belongs, one our locals who fight to keep the same roads.

And yet, every local government and most of the non-profits had to gang up and force Caltrans to put their precious couplet on the back burner to focus on immediate safety fixes. And still they’re dragging their feet for two years while people keep being injured and killed on that corridor. Meanwhile they’re wasting tens of millions of dollars on that stupid and unnecessary interchange and no one says anything.

You must not have lived here very long – Caltrans fought against the interchange between Eureka & Arcata, but the locals (and, especially, the local media) pushed for it, calling that stretch of highway “blood alley”, and lobbying local government to force Caltrans’ hand. Also, Caltrans had a freeway bypass of broadway designed and out to bid, back in the 80s, but the Eureka City Council and local businesses fought so hard against it, that Sacramento took the money back, and now there’s nowhere to build a bypass.
