Cal Poly Humboldt Hosting CAL FIRE Firefighters

CAL FIRE firefighters will be staying on campus through the end of the week.
Press release from Cal Poly Humboldt:
Cal Poly Humboldt has partnered with CAL FIRE to house up to 100 firefighters in residence halls on campus this week.
The agreement comes as firefighters are fighting the nearby Hill Fire, just south of Willow Creek.
Humboldt previously hosted firefighters in 2020 during the state’s largest wildfire season recorded in California’s modern history, which saw a total of 4.3 million acres burned throughout the state, and the University also hosted CAL FIRE in 2015 during the Mad River Complex fires to the east.
The University is excited to be able to offer support to fire crews as they battle fires in the surrounding areas.
CAL FIRE’s stay on campus will not affect students moving into the residence halls next week.
Cal Poly Humboldt has worked with CAL FIRE for many years. Last year, the University and CAL FIRE formalized a partnership with a memorandum of understanding to share expertise and resources to improve fire management and response, as well as forest health and land management practices in California and across the West.

I’d think firefighters would prefer the usual housing at the casinos: drinking, chick’s, food, entertainment
Now if they could just house their students…
Although I love how they use public properties to stage operations, buy fuel at the lowest cost suppliers, and are able to work in terrible conditions…
Be safe out there, and thanks Cal Fire!
Thank you, Cal Poly Humboldt for allowing the firefighters to use campus housing. I am sure it is greatly appreciated by them. After a short stay they will be off to fight the Hill fire which has grown into a monster. I wish the firefighters the very best of luck. Please stay safe guys and watch your back.
