Early this morning, a fire destroyed a barn/workshop and damaged nearby vehicles in Loleta, located in the 1000 block of Hawks Hill Road. The Loleta Fire Department (LFD) was called to the scene around 1:00 a.m. on March 1st. They found a 20’x40′ barn fully engulfed in flames, with a residence close by.

Brad Getter, a local resident who was at the scene, reported that LFD arrived to heavy fire showing from the building. “Additionally two vehicles 20 feet adjacent to the structure were also well involved,” Getter told us. “Residents of the home reported hearing a “loud pop” sound that alerted them to the fire. At this time it is unknown if the residence sustained any fire damage but the workshop is a total loss.”

The fire department deployed one engine, a chief, and a water tender, and was assisted by Fortuna Fire, which provided an engine and a water tender. PG&E was called to deal with overhead power lines near the fire.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.

Much thanks to Brad Getter for his assistance in writing this story.
