Fortuna Woman to Challenge Michelle Bushnell

Press release from Jeana McClendon: Jeana Christina McClendon

Jeana McClendon today announced that she has filed petitions to run in District 2 for Humboldt County Supervisor.

I’m running for the Board of Supervisors because our community faces urgent challenges that demand immediate action. Our housing crisis has exacerbated homelessness, internal conflicts plague our county government and cannabis growers need clarity on rules and regulations that are evenly enforced.”

We will not fix these problems by with division and performance art. I will bring a new leadership style to the Board, one devoid of negativity, false promises and political posturing.”

McClendon is a small business owner and has served as an elected member of two different school boards. She has served on the Board of Fortuna’s Planning Commission, Business Improvement District and the Headwaters Fund. Long active in civic and community organizations, she has served the Rotary Club, American Legion Auxiliary and Eel River Little League.

She and her husband are the owners of Georges Glass, Inc and the parents of two young boys, age 15 and 17

Good, I don’t know her but she seems like a real candidate which should foster a healthy debate with Bushnell…hopefully…. Anyone knows on which side of the political she stems from and how far down that side she goes…?

I don’t know anything about her political views but what I can tell you that she is an amazing human. I went to elementary school and highschool with her, everyone in her family is very humble and kind and are amazing people. I believe she will be an excellent choice as a supervisor.

Some pols excuse “youthful indiscretions” like rape that they committed in their 40s, so I guess it’s true that we are gaining all round in immaturity. ..

I wouldn’t refer to a 17 yr old who is less than a year away from signing up to the selective services as a young boy. I personally think teenager or young man would be more appropriate. But if your wanting your boys to live at home and be coddled until they’re 30 than maybe young boy is appropriate.

Notable differences:

1. Jeana is a nice person, Michelle is not.

2. Jeana has been in a legal business for years, Michelle has not.

3. Jeana has helped run a successful business, Michelle mostly runs her mouth.

I’m sure many more could be added.

Not into politics so not going to argue,
but I do know Michelle.
1). She is a very nice person
2). She has run a successful business for many years on her own (The Boot Leg) and helps run her husbands very successful ranch and trucking business.
Maybe you need to do a little research?

If you think she is a nice person, I have no interest in what you have to say. She is one of the worst humans this county has within its borders. Her actions during her term on the board have been nothing short of unconscionable. When she loses to a decent person I will be happy to wish her good riddance.

Some pretty harsh comments here.
I would also like to know more about her position on things like gun control, crime and on solutions for homeless people and the impossible cost of housing.

You’re bucking the trend with comments like that, people don’t like to vote on ones stance on certain issues. Everyone prefers to vote for what a celebrity , some sort of official or protest group tells the to vote for. It’s dangerous to think for ones self.

Thank your lucky stars that someone great is running against the worst Supervisor you could possibly have gotten…

Bushnell was merely the “least bad” among the challengers in 2020, but her actions and non-action are tiresome and lame…

I hope the voters will decide to move on to fresh new spirit, and a brighter future…

Gotta speak up for Michelle, she’s been a kickass supervisor in my opinion. She’s been responsive and honest about all kinds of county drama through a period of budget shortfalls and the fall of cannabis which has affected our entire economy. Good luck to this woman, may the best candidate win. Thanks so much to Michelle for her continued service to our community.

You mean she caused a lot of drama because she’s not supervisor material. She helped herself first and then her friends if there was time. She never did anything for the rest of the county except throw tantrums. The fact she wasn’t expelled shows the rest of the board is corrupt as well.

Why would she be expelled? What was the reason for the need to expelling her? You seem as though you’re just babbling throughout all your comments. Explaining yourself rather than just whining might clear up your position.

Have you not seen the horrible behavior in BOS meetings, the conflict of interest such as trying to get approval for herself and her friends while trampling on others? Yes, she should have been expelled, just like Bohn should have been expelled for all his bad behavior. Both were caught on video. Neither situation was taken seriously. The BOS is exactly why there’s no real justice system in Humboldt. Corruption through and through.

Wow, so glad someone competent with integrity and honesty has come forward to unseat one of the most petty insecure and dishonest politicians , bushnell. Bushnell has only used her position to serve her own interest’s , and her petty fights that she gets into with people are epic and an embarrassment . I and my whole family will be voting for this other lady, McClendon.

The devil you know or the devil you don’t know? At least Bushnell knows the people of SoHum and will fight for us. Fortuna is 45 minutes or more from many of us. Can this woman adequately represent her rural constituents? Will she?

I think its been a recent trend to vote for someone from the unincorporated areas of the 2nd district as Fortuna doesn’t use much in the way of county services.

For those of you who think Bushnell represents sohum I definitely have questions. Are the people of sohum generally good people? Here’s why I ask. Everyone I talk to says she is not a good person, but instead is into all kinds of criminal activity, but, because she’s a supervisor every time a crime investigation comes back to her, which is frequently, investigators are told to stand down and the crime mysteriously goes away. You know, kind of like the Governor who told law enforcement and DAs to stand down when uncle Paul got a DUI. You know, like when Bohn’s son wasn’t prosecuted for murder. All I know is that if indeed she is involved in so many crimes, who is she representing? Is she a cover for others in sohum involved in criminal activity? If indeed she is a cover up for those commenting crimes, is she truly representing sohum? Just hearing some of the crimes she was supposedly linked to makes me certain she will never represent me on any level.

This is just from my observation and conversation. Of course she and anyone else suspected of crime is innocent until proven guilty. However, in her case, as well as my other examples, we may never know, since stand down orders never makes it to court. I, however, out of an abundance of caution would never vote for someone with so many red flags.

So you won’t address my specific, but basic questions, regarding M. Bushnell and the reasons why she should have been expelled, which was apparently based on your opinion, but nothing else. What a waste of your time, and everyone else’s. You’re a regular here, correct?

She is a small business owner. She was elected to two different school boards. Has served on Fortuna’s planning commission, Business improvement District and the headwaters fund. Also served on the rotary club and the American legion auxiliary. She spends a lot of time getting involved in her community. Sounds like she is involved and aware of her area. Now commenters please let me know what Bushnell is involved in in our community, I know she carried one of the hundred flags at parade but what else is she working on for us ? I am a Democrat but I want someone to get involved in our community needs, and I do not care if they are dem or republicans I want some one to be involved. I voted for Bushnell and I am looking for reasons to vote for someone who might do more for we the people.

Just to be fair, I thought I should speak up as at first I thought you were talking about Michelle. This is not an endorsement of her as I haven’t looked at the two other candidates yet. But, this is my personal knowledge and off the top of my head…Michelle is a small business owner. She was Board President of the Southern Humboldt Chamber of Commerce and also a board member and clerk of the Southern Humboldt Unified School District Board and she was and may still be a member of the Rotary club. She’s extremely involved in many aspects of her district from supporting the SoHum Hospital to attending the Van Duzen Grange meeting to judging parades in Fortuna. And from personal experience twice, I reached out to her about situations ranging from the Thotapilly family from India needing support after a car with their family members in it plunged into the Eel River to a homeless woman giving birth and she not only had lined up support but was personally taking care of their needs.

Yes, I disagree with her on some votes. But I don’t know that I’ve seen many people as hardworking as she is. That said, Jeana McClendon’s list of things she does for the community is similarly very impressive and I will be looking to see who I will be voting for in the upcoming election.

I haven’t forgotten that she was also a very dependable school bus driver for years, safely transporting our children to and from school.

That’s been what, 25 or 30 years ago…??? Or more…???

And don’t forget how dedicated she is to ensuring the long tradition of the Garberville Rodeo endures…

I’m not sure how a person could be more community oriented and involved than Michelle Bushnell…

She has made a very positive difference representing the Second District, and hasn’t overlooked the needs of the Southern Humboldt side of the Second District, like so many of her predecessors from the Northern Side have done.

I will be voting for Michelle Bushnell again, to allow her to continue to represent the Second District…

As any Country Person should already know, the grass ain’t necessarily greener on the other side of the fence, just because it looks that way…

What we have here in Candidate McClendon, appears to me, to be just that sort of optical illusion…

Never Quit a Winner…

Reelect our current representative, Supervisor Michelle Bushnell.

She has the necessary experience.

Michelle has fought for SoSohum more than most. Public money seldom makes it past Rio Dell. No money has been spent in South County since Harry Pritchard was 2nd District Supervisor back in the ’80’s.

Any Federal and State money is spent in Eureka building a Taj Mahal library, or pouring more concrete on the waterfront. No improvement is too good for Eureka. Meanwhile the county closed Garberville’s Court House / Veterans hall and Let it rot into oblivion. They closed our Sheriff’s office and holding Jail. They put all of the County offices and library in a Portable Building that they towed into an almost inaccessible back street. We haven’t seen new pavement on Redwood drive since the ’80’s. County roads?. forget it!

Michelle has fought like hell to get a new Veteran’s Building built. Even that was engineered by an OREGON engineering firm, while we have top quality engineers in Humboldt County. Then Supe Wilson wanted to hold the whole thing up again to “think” about it not knowing that the window of opportunity would be closing. (or maybe he did)

I really believe Michelle’s heart is in Southern Humboldt. Her history is deep here and she has Eel River blood in her veins. Her husband also has great history and involvement in local industry.

When the dope growing heyday was here the County ignored us because they felt that we had plenty of money down here and we should do everything ourselves. We had to build our own Community Center, Credit Union, Medical clinic, and most of the volunteer fire departments, while the County almost completely ignored us.

The county forced us to travel to the “County Seat” for all of our legal business, jury duty, shopping Etc. Then they claim that they collect most of the county’s sales tax money, so it should be spent there. Never mind that the business that they get the tax money from comes from the hinterlands. Don’t even get me started on The Transit Occupancy Tax that the county collects from the unincorporated areas of Humboldt.

Yes, I will be voting for Michelle.

The lady from Fortuna seems highly qualified, but what do we care about qualification in SoHum if we will be ignored again! Enough is Enough.

Thanks Ernie,

I forgot to mention that I see Michelle Bushnell at so many community events, volunteer fire department fundraisers, school fundraisers, scholarship fundraisers, too many times to count, and yes, that’s because I am there, also, but I know that she attends way more of these local events than I do, AND she also attends the Northerly events…

She is approachable, receptive to discussion, and seems truly engaged in our conversations, with every indication that she has truly considered them.

She definitely doesn’t ignore us, that’s for sure.

That’s just some of what impresses me about Michelle Bushnell.

As the owner and editor of RHBB and as you claim; “This is not an endorsement of her (Michelle) as I haven’t looked at the two other candidates yet.”. However, by all appearances, it was an endorsement to some degree, pointing out what you feel are Bushnell’s strong points. Even the title to this article is some what obscured; “FORTUNA WOMAN TO CHALLENGE MICHELLE BUSHNELL”. You couldn’t say “Jeana McClendon” in the headline?

“We will not fix these problems by with division and performance art. I will bring a new leadership style to the Board, one devoid of negativity, false promises and political posturing.”

-Jeana McClendon-

________________________________________

I would have considered my initial impression of McCendon’s to be a little bit more endearing, and a bit less distasteful, had she not began the political mudslinging, however cryptic, right out of the campaigning gate, before I am even sure how to properly pronounce her first name…

(Is it properly pronounced like, “Gina”, or is it properly pronounced like “Jee- anna”…???)

Judging by the quote, above… …don’t try to be pulling my leg already, Candidate McClendon…

It’s abundantly clear that the “friendly city” “negativity and false promises”, have already only just begun to commence.

I’m not buying the promise to NOT bring to the Board “negativity and false promises”.

It’s already too late for that, as this very first promise she just made, has simultaneously been forever broken, as her thinly veiled negativity, and therefore her very first broken campaign promises, have just hit the front page of RHBB…

Left handedly stated or not, it’s “negativity”, AND “false promises”, of McClendon’s, to suggest that she will replace “negativity and false promises”, with anything else, you see.

(Maybe you don’t, but I DO.)

Next candidate, please.

I would suggest to Jeanna McClendon, if these aren’t her “true” words, then she should immediately fire her Speech Writer, AND, maybe her Campaign Manager as well.

They aren’t doing her any favors, at all, with this derogatory campaign strategy, no matter how subtly it’s presented.

They are script writers, so that makes her statements, also “performance art”), (which she also derides), if they are not her true words…

If Bushnell is such a great Supervisor, why is she having to recuse herself from voting and taking part in issues that affect Southern Humboldt, like she did on November 28th? Then you have her having to recuse herself from Cannabis discussions and agenda items. Having a major financial conflict of interest in the Counties largest domestic product and having to recuse herself from making decisions is not helpful for Southern Humboldt or the Cannabis Industry in Humboldt County.

What about the Vets Hall in Garberville?

??,

Is that a rhetorical question, Ed Voice…???

?

??,

If you are such a fanciful conissieur of our Humboldt County 2nd District Supervisors, Ed…

..tell us, Ed, just exactly WHICH candidate will you be casting your all important vote for…

…Michelle Bushnell…???

…or…

….Jeana McClendon…???

Please, Ed…

Enlighten us…

(…and please don’t forget to include your reason…)

Or, will YOU be recusing YOURSELF from the actual vote, due to undisclosed “conflicts of interest”, of YOUR OWN…???

P.S. Ed…

It’s a Catch 22 when it comes to our Supervisors background and experience, when it comes to them voting on any Cannabis issues, which I have previously considered, and maybe we have even previously discussed this…

On the one hand, you seem to be advocating for electing a 2nd District Supervisor that won’t be required to recuse themselves, because they neither have any Cannabis experience, nor do they know jack shit about how a Cannabis business operates, because they have never run a Cannabis business…

…”which” would be completely useless…(???)

(…Sincerely, no intended reflection or insinuation towards Jeana McClendon, either way, as this, I have considered since the last election…)

I feel that Michelle Bushnell, for example, even though she may have to recuse herself on Cannabis related votes, (from time to time, but not always), she has the absolutely invaluable knowledge of real experience, so she is well informed, in my opinion, let’s say…

She’s no Greenhorn, and to me, that’s a positive, not a negative…
