Fire personnel are en route to several fires in northeastern Mendocino County between Covelo and Mina just before 8 a.m. on September 11. According to Cal Fire copter 101, there are at least three fires they have identified, now called the Bald Fire.

Fire one, reported to be a logging slash pile, was approximately 1 acre in size with a slow rate of spread. As of 8:35 a.m., scanner traffic indicates forward progress has been stopped on that fire.

A second fire was reported to be approximately two acres, while a third fire was confirmed and reported to be approximately four acres in timber, also with a slow rate of spread.

Additional resources were requested with staging set at the intersection of Bald Mountain Road and Mina Road, along with a request for a Cal Fire tanker.

Update 11:10 a.m.: Air resources are being released.

Update 11:25 a.m.: According to scanner traffic, a fifth fire has been confirmed. (We have no information on the apparent fourth fire other than the posted graphic below from Cal Fire Mendocino.)

The incident commander reported that a vehicle fire with spread to the vegetation was confirmed on the south side of the north fork of the Eel River bridge. He stated that the fire was approximately 50 feet by 50 feet in size.

Additionally, he stated that resources already at scene would be able to handle.

Update 1:31 p.m.: Resources continue to be released from the Bald Fire as smoke from the fire has lessened on the Alert California camera system.

According to scanner traffic at 12:24 p.m., a dozer was released from the incident and headed back to base.

Around 1:09 p.m., the incident commander relayed that crews had a line around the first fire and were in the mop up stage. That fire is reported to be 0.61 acres in size.

Thanks for keeping us in the loop Lisa. Definitely weird, my knee-jerk feeling is that we have a firebug.
