A full wildland fire response has been deployed to the 27000 block of Albion Ridge Road east of Albion in Mendocino County where an unknown type fire is actively burning this evening.

Ground firefighters are reporting a large plume of black smoke in the area. The fire is reportedly located down a logging road in the area.

The air attack commander reported the fire is one acre in size burning in heavy fuel. The fire is spreading slowly and in the middle of the fire the commander said he assumed there was a structure but could not be sure because the smoke was so thick. If so, he believes it is fully engulfed in flames.

Initially reported around 6:55 p.m., the fire is being referred to as the “Hazel Incident” and a dark column of smoke is visible from the Cameron AlertCalifornia fire camera.

Out is a strong word for this situation…But firefighters have it controlled and are comfortable it will not spread. They’ll be watching for smokes but as a whole it is good.
