Quick Response on Lighthouse Fire Sends Fire Crews Back to Base

Vegetation Fire feature iconAround 2:45 p.m. on June 21, emergency dispatch requested firefighting resources to respond to the 45300 block of Lighthouse Road on the Mendocino Coast near the Point Cabrillo Lighthouse for a vegetation fire.

The first crews on scene of what is dubbed the Lighthouse Fire, stated this was a 50 feet by 50 feet brush fire. They asked for air support to be canceled. Subsequent transmission stated the fire was 20 feet by 20 feet in size.

All but two engines and one water tender were cancelled however the Cal Fire helicopter from the Howard Forest station responded, “I’m already in the air.” The copter circled around and landed back at Howard Forest.

By 2:58 p.m. the incident commander reported that they had the fire knocked down and were getting a hose lay around the perimeter. All other resources have been canceled.
