About 3 p.m. yesterday, according to the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department, two men in a lifted red pickup committed an armed robbery and assaulted the victim before fleeing the area. Law enforcement located the vehicle in the Cutten area and began pursuing them. The suspect vehicle collided with a vehicle containing a man, his sister-in-law, and the man’s son.

Shots were fired–at this point, it is unclear whether the suspects fired any of them. However, multiple shots were fired and the two suspects are in the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds.

Below are photos, mostly from our photographer, Mark McKenna, showing the scene (These are high quality photos and make take a minute to load):

I counted at least 13 shell casing yellow markers at one spot. Whose weapon was used there and where did the bullets find their mark? Rifle or pistol gunplay?

A huge thank you to all the departments involved. It could have been much worse.
The photos by Mark McKenna are excellent.

I copied this from LOCO:

“The two suspects are Jesse and Brandon Widmark”

Seems just a bit odd that no information about the two injured suspects has been released. Usually, there are names, ages, places of residence, etc., and pictures (whether mugshots or driver’s license photos). The absence of that info makes me wonder. Is there some significant marker of connection to some group or another, or some reason they or their families need to be protected from publicity? It’s not as if they’re unknown suspects on the run… they’ve got them right there under their thumbs, so to speak.

Guessing/hoping one or both of the perps didn’t make it. Need to notify next of kin?

Read a bit on LOCOs comments where a woman reported she was mugged and assaulted. She said she didn’t know the people who did it. Humboldt on Alert had some video and people saying they witnessed the accident.

According to the news articles this alleged armed robbery sounds similar to the alleged Samoa armed robbery the other day, 2 males in a truck, 2 against 1.

According to chiv’s blog there were reports of the suspects going 80 in that area at that time of day, shooting out of their car, after they allegedly committed armed robbery and assault at the mall.

Shattered cop’s window, seems unlikely the cops did that themselves.

One of the officers looks like an undercover (long hair) and has FBI on their chest rig. Makes you wonder what were these suspects really up to. Was this a crime spree that crossed state lines, etc?

Why else would the FBI be involved?

What are you talking about? There’s no one wearing anything that even comes close to the letters FBI. I see one guy wearing a shirt with CSET on it, but that’s not FBI. That’s someone with the Critical Response Team. They’re always called when there’s an officer involved incident.

Wow. I think you need glasses.

Hi Kym. Great reporting. I would like to know why they don’t know whether or not the suspects have fired any of the shots? Clearly they would have gunshot residue, wouldn’t they? Or are they just not releasing that info to you?

Kym, any info if this was a real FBI agent or just a local cop playing dress up? If it was FBI, why?

You are mistaken repeatedly.

There is a guy who looks like an undercover officer wearing a KC Chiefs hat, but his badge and insignia is not visible. I’m not sure which agency he is with.

They is another similar looking dude with FBI across his body armor.

And CSET is not the CIRT team. CSET is Eureka’s Community Safety Enhancement Team.

It likely that because of the nature of the incident, any and all available law enforcement in the area get involved.

There clearly is a pic of the FBI there. Even if he was wrong, why do people have to be so nasty?

In picture #26, the officer with glasses on his hat looks like the wrestler “The Big Show.”

Picture #5 screams out “redneck.”
