[Yesterday,] the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) released the most recent statistics on COVID-19 in California. The most up to date data is available on the state’s COVID-19 data dashboard.
Statewide COVID-19 Data
Rates of cases, hospitalizations and deaths are highest among unvaccinated individuals and lowest among boosted individuals. This is true for all age groups. See additional data for unvaccinated and vaccinated cases, hospitalizations, and deaths.
Vaccinations
- 87,980,271 total vaccines administered.
- 72.6% of the population has been vaccinated with a primary series.
- 11,283 people a day are receiving COVID-19 vaccination (average daily dose count over 7 days).
Cases
- California has 11,084,818 confirmed cases to date.
- Today’s average case count is 2,893 (average daily case count over 7 days).
- During December 2022, unvaccinated people were 2.4 times more likely to get COVID-19 than people who were vaccinated with at least a primary series.
Testing
- The testing positivity rate is 6.4% (average rate over 7 days).
Hospitalizations
- There are 2,541 hospitalizations statewide.
- There are 296 ICU patients statewide.
- During December 2022, unvaccinated people were 2.6 times more likely to be hospitalized with COVID-19 than people who were vaccinated with at least a primary series.
Deaths
- There have been 99,960 COVID-19 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
- COVID-19 claims the lives of 24 Californians each day (average daily death count over 7 days).
- During December 2022, unvaccinated people were 3.0 times more likely to die from COVID-19 than people who were vaccinated with at least a primary series.

It ain’t luck to have been saying all along that testing for COVID infection PRIOR to Covid vaccination should have been a mandatory requirement initially, and that a positive test for antibodies should have shaped vaccination recommendations.
No testing was done on vaccinating previously infected individuals.
And no studies were done on the durability and efficacy of the natural immunity of previous infection.
In fact, natural immunity was treated as yet another conspiracy theory, only to be eventually proven to be of equal or greater effectiveness.
These people will continue to insist that the experts who were wrong about almost everything MUST continue to be respected and that all of the people who were correct about most things MUST continue to be ignored.
It’s a religious belief at this point and has nothing to do with health or anything scientific.
There were plenty of studies done on length of naturally acquired immunity and vaccine acquired immunity. You yourself frequently mentioned them. I remember responding to your declarations of the superiority of getting the disease verus vaccines with “if you survive the attempt.” In truth, it isn’t until enough time has gone by to get data that scientist can say whether there was any immunity at all. You have this real weird faith in scientists can pull answers out of thin air while simultaneously objecting to the most reasonable statements they make if you do not like them and touting your prescience when you do like them. You apparently think it is magic. Vaccination is easy and safe by all reasonable standards. Not getting vaccinated was and still is a crap shoot. Unlike keyboard scientists, real scientists can not just announce what they want.
An antibody test at the time was not reasonable as a check for whether someone should get vaccinated. Antibodies for one thing may take months to develop enough to show on blood test, there had not yet been developed a readily available antibody test for covid (there are hundreds of antibodies for all sorts of things floating around a body and they need to be identified)and there was no information at the time to understand what such antibodies meant in terms of immunity. It was difficult to even develop such understanding for clinical studies of the vaccine. It was not feasible to do it en masse. Wanting what you can’t have at the time does not make you right. It makes you wrong.

Meh….with a 99% survival rate, I should have taken those odds and gone with natural immunity.
But now despite having taken 2 Maderna vaccines; I’ve had covid, with it being akin to a mild 2 day cold. However I’ve also recently developed 2 pulmonary embolisms and an AFIB condition. My Cardiologist was puzzled as to why I developed both conditions, even though I was in otherwise perfect health prior to that. He asked me if I had taken any booster shots, to which I replied “no”. He said “Good, I don’t recommend them for you”. It was refreshing to hear from a person of “science” acknowledge the inherent risks of the vaccine, and to admit that they are not for everyone.
After recently having 2 Cardioversions to correct my AFIB condition; I now get to take Tikosyn and Eloquist for the rest of my life, to maintain a normal heart rhythm and prevent future blood clots.
Does it even cross your mind that the reason covid was a”mild 2 day cold” for you was because you were vaccinated? That your body was primed to respond to covid and so did not get dangerously sick as a person without vaccination gets while the days go by for the immune system to recognize the threat and gear up to respond to it? Or that an effect of covid itself is blood clots and heart inflamation? As were many of the viruses you had previously? All scientist of any sanity acknowledges vaccine risks. But they also have the information that getting the disease is so much more likely to have “bad side effects.” It is more likely your cardiologist did not take time to argue with a mind already made up because it would not change anything for you anyway.
While I was originally hospitalized for 2 days, the ER doctor that diagnosed my AFIB condition and blood clots stated he’s been seeing an increase of similar instances such as mine, come thru the ER. Generally healthy people such as myself, developing blood clots and heart related issues after being vaccinated and boosted. And not normally older people, but a steady increase in people under 40.
My Hematologist that is treating my Pulmonary embolisms was also puzzled as to the development of those Pulmonary embolisms. I did not fit the “normal” characteristics for such ailment affliction. He too also recommended to me that I not get any booster shots.
These are all credible physicians that independently recommended that I should not get booster shots, due to my unique circumstances.
Believe what you will, but I’m rolling the dice on the physicians that treated me, for what could have resulted in a very bad outcome for me had I not gone to the ER when I did. Again, a 99% survival rate for anything it pretty good. Don’t act like you know everything for everyone, if it doesn’t fit your narrative.
Of course doctor’s have seen an increase in pulmonary embolism. It’s an effect of covid. Even months after recovery. The real point is not that a vaccine causes an increase in such things- which it does but only rarely- but whether the disease itself in unvaccinated causes more of them. I wouldn’t get a booster that increases such things when I already had that problem either. But I very likely would get the initial series. In fact I don’t consider any vaccine as always harmless. The testing in vaccines have the point of proving they are saving more lives than the combination of side effects AND the disease itself.
And no “Grumpyoldguy” is actually every going to be a total surprise for embolism with any doctor. They are just being polite. Being older is a risk factor for pulmonary embolism with no vaccination or disease involved. Probably grumpy is a risk factor but who has ever classified that enough to know. Anyway have you asked them specifically whether your condition was due to the vaccine?

Out of state now. After living in Humboldt for 28 years after retiring from PG&E, I actually moved out of California about 2 years ago. Politics and high cost of living, took me to greener and better pastures. Much better medical options too. I still follow Humboldt stuff though, and keep in close touch with friends I left behind.

Getting a COVID-19 vaccine after having COVID-19
Even if you or your child have had COVID-19, you should still get yourself or your child vaccinated.
Getting a COVID-19 vaccine after having COVID-19 provides added protection against the virus that causes COVID-19.
People who already had COVID-19 and do not get vaccinated after their recovery are more likely to get COVID-19 again than those who get vaccinated after their recovery.
If you were given monoclonal antibodies or convalescent plasma while sick with COVID-19 you do not need to wait to get vaccinated

The New York Post was suspended by social media companies over the Hunter Biden story before the 2020 election by companies relying on false stories appearing in many of the most trustworthy sites listed by GDI.
The allegedly dangerous sites also included Reason, a website associated with UCLA Law Professor Eugene Volokh, who was clearly gobsmacked by the warning. Reason regularly posts insightful and substantive analysis from conservative and libertarian scholars. With the diminishing number of such academics on faculties, the site is a relative rarity in offering a different take on cases and legal issues. The inclusion of Reason in the listing is absurd and shows an utter lack of objective and reliable criteria. For example, GDI says that the site offers “no information regarding authorship attribution, pre-publication fact-checking or post-publication corrections processes, or policies to prevent disinformation in its comments section.” That is obviously untrue as any cursory review of the site would confirm. The Reason articles contain clear indications of authorship.”
