Out of Area Hunter Was Off Duty Officer First at Scene of Death on Old Briceland Road Yesterday

Death InvestigationToday, we are learning more about the death investigation that took place on Old Briceland Road west of Garberville yesterday afternoon which continued into last night.

Just before 4 p.m. yesterday, hunters staying at the Marshall Ranch (which leases land to a hunting club) discovered a gunshot victim alongside the road inside the ranch boundaries, according to David Sanchez, the ranch’s general manager. “Today is opening day for fall turkey season. That’s why they were there.”

Sanchez explained, “There were multiple hunters from out of the area. One was an off-duty officer.” According to scanner traffic, this hunter was the one who made sure the scene was secured until local law enforcement was able to drive to the rural area where the deceased and his pickup were located.

According to Sanchez, the road was closed in both directions for some time after the discovery of the body, but it was reopened before late this morning.

As of this afternoon, the scene has been completely cleared and those close to family of the deceased tell us that the truck has been returned to family.

Law enforcement is supposed to put out a press release today and we’ll update when that information comes out.

The clarification provided is helpful. There were some wild conspiracy theories people instantly jumped to in the previous article.

It is rumored that the Humboldt sheriffs won’t be patrolling after Nov 15 due to lack of funds. If this is true, do we need the militia to meet and take care of ourselves?

Right? It’s sad how many people don’t have a life or decent ethics. Making wild public speculation and conspiracy theories about a strangers death with just a tiny bit of information isn’t something intelligent, sane people with fulfilling lives do. I’d pity them if their behavior wasn’t so disgusting.
