Man Missing Between Ukiah and Santa Rosa May Have Been the Victim of Identity Theft, Says SoHum Family Member

Yesterday, Danielle Young of Southern Humboldt printed out posters for her husband, Casey, to put up in Mendocino and Sonoma Counties. His brother has been missing for a month. Danielle is making the posters to send out and for her husband to hang–mostly between Ukiah and Santa Rosa but also beyond. “Many places in San Francisco have agreed to hang the posters at their establishments,” she told us. “[S]o many people have been so helpful, I’m grateful.”

Danielle explained that the family became worried when her brother-in-law didn’t contact his mom after getting Christmas money. He had also been uncharacteristically long without contacting her.

“Every Christmas Mom sends the kids each $75,” Danielle explained. “This year Stacey didn’t have a permanent mailing address so Mom sent the money Western Union.”

A text, ostensibly from Stacey, came to Danielle’s mother-in-law on December 29 saying he had lost his wallet and that she needed to call Western Union and tell them a password so he could pick up the money. “[W]e don’t know for sure if that was him texting,” Danielle explained.

The money was picked up on January 2. “[Stacey] was always good about texting or calling “thank you” or “ I love you” or “I got the money,” Danielle told us. She has heard nothing since sending the money.”

She added worriedly, “Since they texted the secret question on [a] cell phone, anyone could have picked up the money if they knew the secret question.”

Danielle told us her brother-in-law would usually call his mother “once a week or at the very least [he] texted once a week. She hasn’t heard his actual voice since before the 26th of December.”

They do have a clue. “We found out where and when the money was picked up,” Danielle told us. “Walgreens on 4th and Market St in San Francisco.” Danielle said she called them to find out if they have cameras and they do.

“I gave all the information to a detective,” she told us. She said she asked the detective if someone pretended to be her brother-in-law in order to steal the photos money would that be a federal crime and he told her that it would be.

“I asked if he would go look at it,” she told us. “He said he would call me. I sent him pictures, and the poster and a copy of Stacey’s California id. So he has plenty of pictures to compare it to who is on camera.” But then she added, ”
They haven’t called me back yet.”

Stacey is 51 years old and generally lives between Ukiah and Santa Rosa but he might be in San Francisco. He weighs about 150 pounds. He has brown hair and hazel eyes. Danielle is asking if anyone has seen him to please call or text (707) 223-2553. “His family misses him,” she said.

What is he a vagabond? “Lives between…..?” Not even sure what that means. This is a terrible article, maybe wait to write until after the cops do their investigation if your adding nothing at all to the process.

I hope the detective from the San Francisco Police Department will call you back with good information. If you know the detective’s phone number, try calling to see what is happening with the case and photos from that Walgreens store. I pray that he will be located soon and bring this to a closure for your family.

Please call Walgreens yourself. See if the detective has been to the store to review the footage. These days, you have to follow up to make sure someone followed through on their job. Do not wait.

Are you crazy? Walgreens in San Francisco is not going to talk to me about this case. Call yourself! I am not a family member and don’t know the gentleman that is missing. Just hope he will be found safe.

I did follow up with Walgreens myself and they keep the footage for 60 days. They will not release the footage or show it to anyone but law enforcement.
As soon as special crimes unit picks up the case (feb 17th) then they will view the footage. Law enforcement will not send a patrol unit over there to view the footage.
It’s frustrating as heck! But rules are rules and we have to abide by them.
Please keep sharing this story all over. I’m blessed that Kym reported this story and know there are readers all over the state and beyond that will share this and someone, somewhere, may have seen something.

Hopefully Walgreens will hold the footage longer than 60 days since you’re specifically asking for it because it may take that long for the law enforcement special crimes unit to get in there. Praying that that footage works out for you.

They won’t view the video footage until Feb 17th?!! And the store won’t let anybody see it except for the cops?!! Wow. I’m so sorry. This is a broken system…

Please ignore the rude comments. Most of us are praying for the safe return/reappearance of your loved one. I am sure you all are worried sick. It may help to check community spots he frequents, like food pantries, shelters, etc.,if he utilizes these resources.

I have gone through this personally trying to find a missing loved one. I checked homeless shelters, hospitals, jails, greyhound/amtrak stations, and posted to every county/city social media groups in the surrounding areas as well. Were there any existing mental health issues with him or possible recent head injuries that might make him less aware of who he is and where he is? Did he have social media accounts that may give more information on where he is or who he is with? We hope and pray you find your loved one asap. Try to rest and stay well through it all. Sending lots of hope and many prayers for all of you.
