Yesterday, Wind, Rain, and Hail Didn’t Stop Three Fires in Trinity County

Wild weather yesterday in Trinity County–high winds, rain, hail, and even lightning–are just some of the problems faced by residents. (See videos of the wild weather issues here and here.) Lightning over the last few days left two large fires and one small one burning in the County.

The McFarland Fire, burning from Shasta County into Trinity is south of Wildwood and south of Hwy 36. This morning it was 1,079 acres and only 5% contained, according to the Shasta Trinity National Forest Service. (See Map at top for rough area the fire is burning.)

The Panther Fire, burning west of Big Bar and south of Hwy 299, is estimated at 70 acres this morning. According to the Shasta Trinity National Forest, “It has very difficult access. Firefighters will be utilizing existing dozer lines from 2008 to contain the fire.”

The Springtime Fire near Hayfork is less than one acre.

Good news is I can see that area from up the mountain and there is no smoke column at this point. If that changes I will post it.

Was just up on FH1 (Titlow Hill Road) this afternoon (7/31).

You could see the Panther fire… it wasn’t that big but it was sending up a smoke plume.
Burning in steep country with timber. On the way there I met 5 CalFire pumpers headed west on 299.
They were dusty, must have been on the Panther fire. (But I dunno.)

Up on FH1… was a pleasant 80 or so.
Going down Friday Ridge… at about 2000 ft… you would run into hot air from the valley.
Down in Willow Creek… it must have been 100 (and more) this afternoon. It was blazing.

Thanks, Ullr Rover, I was just looking at some info on the panther fire.

A lot of stuff about 2008, some of it tragic.

I was thinking that they usually don’t duplicate fire names.

I’ll be keeping track of the Monument fire.

Thanks again for being on point.

I appreciate it.

Thank you for your reports. We counted on them last September during the fire that swept the southern Ruth valley. We lost about 70 acres but not our cabin, thanks be to God.

Yes, it sucks that the FS is pretty much relying on everyone in the backcountry being Mark Zuckerbergs slave to get any info.

Triple A links, and on point, Ullr Rover,
Awesome.

On the above ‘maps. nwcg. gov.’ link, there is a small purple square at the intersection of Underwood Road, cross street of, Kaut Road.

On the map legend, the small purple square indicates,

Emerging WF ( Wild Fire),
< (less than), 24 hours.

Not trying to cause alarm.

Just a heads up.

You are amazing Ullr Rover,

Really on it.

I figured since there was good access there, it got good attention.

Way to make me look like a slacker.😂🤣😂😁.

The fire service should be paying you for being a lookout, and as a reporter

I’ve got family out that way, so l’m much obliged.

Thanks again for the Triple A links.

You’re welcome, again.

This one is a little too close to me so I’m tracking information vigilantly.

After they pulled air support yesterday and said they were going to use 2008 fire lines I knew it was going to get pretty big. There are no fire lines in the drainage where it started and it’s really brushy around Eagle Rock and Monument Peak all the way down into Big Bar and over to Corral Bottom.

Ullr Rover,
I had a feeling it was close to you.

Are you in the Evacuation Warning Zone?

I hope it is not moving your way.

Thanks for sharing the prompt info.

Fortunately, I’m not in the evacuation zone and prevailing weather patterns should push it away from me.

But topography and time will bring it my way eventually.

Ullr Rover,

Sounds precarious, yet promising.

Let’s hope it doesn’t reach you at all.

I will be wishing you a hedge of protection.
