[UPDATE 10:16 a.m.] Three Apartments on Fire off Broadway
Two nearly simultaneous fires challenged firefighters this morning about 8:30 a.m. One was at Fields Landing, the other off Broadway in Eureka near the Chinn’s Motel.
Units from other agencies have been called in to cover as Humboldt Bay Fire focuses on the blaze.

Multiple firefighters at the scene.
Three rooms in an apartment building were blazing when firefighters arrived on the scene. Crews were at the motor home fire in Fields Landing when the call for Chinn’s came in. (See here for more on the Fields Landing Fire.)
Units responded from Fields Landing to this fire off Broadway.
None of the rooms were occupied when Humboldt Bay Fire arrived.
The structure appears to have one shared attic. Firefighters had to vent the roof in multiple spots.
One southbound lane of Broadway is closed in the area.

Arson, AGAIN???? I hope not, but it certainly looks suspicious with two blazes going at nearly the same time!!!

Another independent motel burns….
They’ve been looking worse and worse before catching fire ever since Eureka allowed national hotel chains to saturate downtown.
Christmas time has lots of fires. Overload circuits from lots of lights on old problem systems= disaster.

I know of a handicapped lady who lives there in one of those rooms Outside of her the whole apt complex is full of druggies.
Christmas trees and overloaded plug-in’s cause fires.
Nope, 99% sure this was a butane hash oil lab that went BOOM. Employees and patrons of nearby businesses documented butane canisters blown apart and scattered everywhere.
That time of year when folks are processing all their extra shake…
Yep, happens in daily rented rooms in motels. Not saying this one was rented by the day- but it happens.
