Community Bake Sale to Help Fulfill Local Mother’s Final Wish to Reunite With Her Family

The community is invited to support a special bake sale fundraiser on Friday, July 3, to help make one local mother’s final wish a reality.

The “Mom’s Last Wish Trip” Bake Sale Fundraiser will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. in front of Shop Smart in Redway. All proceeds will go toward helping Iva Coffelt Petersen Volz travel to California to spend precious time with her children and grandchildren after receiving devastating news about her cancer.

After prayerful discussions with her family, Iva made the difficult decision to stop the more aggressive chemotherapy. Doctors have told the family she is now facing a prognosis of approximately five to nine months.

Rather than focusing on treatments, Iva has one heartfelt request: to be surrounded by her family while she still can.

She hopes to travel to California to visit her daughter, Autumn, and her family. Loved ones are also working to bring together Iva’s son and granddaughter, creating what may be the family’s final opportunity to gather everyone in one place.

“This is the only thing she asks for,” Brandi wrote. “The only thing she talks about. The only thing her heart is holding onto as her body grows weaker.”

Community members can help by purchasing homemade baked goods during the fundraiser.
