Covelo resident Joseph Hoaglen is facing criminal charges, including kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm in connection to the disappearance of Traci Bland and Kyle McCartney, says Mendocino County Sheriff Office’s Public Information Officer Captain Greg Van Patten.

Traci Bland

Traci Bland

Traci Bland and Kyle McCartney were said to have been attacked on November 19 after arrival at an Oak Lane property in Covelo. Four days later, two bodies were discovered alongside Hulls Valley Road. Captain Van Patten told us, “The bodies were confirmed as being an adult male and female.” He added, “[T]he male was identified as being Kyle and the female still remains unidentifiable at this time.”

Regarding the charging of Joseph Hoaglen in connection with the deaths, Captain Van Patten said, “Detectives believe they had enough probable cause for the additional charges at this point, and the DA will have the ultimate decision on if charges will be filed.”

Details provided within the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Booking Logs indicate deputies booked Joseph Hoaglen into the Mendocino County Jail on November 22. The charges he faces were listed in the following days.

Kyle McCartney

Charges against Hoaglen described in the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Bookings include kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm, and conspiracy to commit a felony.

In December 2018, the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office featured Hoaglen in their “Warrant Wednesday” post describing him as being wanted for assault with a deadly weapon and making criminal threats.

In January 2018, Hoaglen faced charges of robbery and vehicle theft.

In March of 2017, Hoaglen was stopped by MCSO deputies while driving in Round Valley, and a record check indicated he had outstanding warrants for second-degree robbery and use of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office asks to hear from “anyone with specific information” about the crimes committed against Bland and McCartney. If you have any information about this case please call the Sheriff’s Office Communications line at 707-463-4086 or the Tip line at 707-234-2100.

How many times do we see this Round Valley Families name in the press for criminal activity? How many times have we seen the name Joseph Hoaglen in the news for criminal activity?
Back in 2017; TRAFFIC ROULETTE, COVELO

On March 18, 2017, at about 11:03 PM Mendocino County Sheriff’s Deputies were on routine patrol in Covelo. While in the area of Tabor Lane and Little Lake Way, Deputies stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. Deputies contacted the driver who was identified as Joseph Hoaglen, 34, of Covelo, at which time a records check was conducted through dispatch for warrants.

Dispatch advised Hoaglen had an outstanding felony warrant for his arrest for several charges: Second Degree Robbery, Use of a firearm in the commission of a felony Felon in possession of a firearm and Failure to Appear on a Felony. Hoaglen was placed under arrest without incident on the warrant and transported to the Mendocino County Jail for booking where he was held without bail.

How many more robberies, assaults or Hoaglen Murderers does it take to set a solid example?

Jeebus, what did he/they do to her that she can’t be identified?

No local connection able to ID the body is the likely cause.

Rumor on Covelo social media is that one was shot in the head and the other had the head cut off. Worse than that little disclosure is the deafening support for the accused whether he is guilty or not. The mindset of these people is the reason that any decent people are leaving the area, or want to.

I, sadly, figured it was something like that. She is listed as a resident of Covelo, it isn’t like there isn’t anyone there who knew her.

Sad. Glad they caught up with at least one of the killers.

Fairly typical way that some in-groups regard crimes against outsiders, especially when family connections and an aggrieved mentality are involved. Which is not to say that the victims were entirely innocent either.

Innocent or not, she should’ve had her day in court in front of a real judge not be killed in the way she was. Neither one had a chance, I believe it was a total set up. It’s to convent that 4 men bear Kyle and Traci to death while a 3rd person ran away.

We wonder if he is the git of the Hoaglens of Hoaglen valley south of Kettenpom. I remember going out to Hull’s creek, always had a gun, never went alone, and were always on the lookout. At some point this shit has got to stop. Maybe bring some militia people into Covelo, maybe that’s what is needed.

Parcel by parcel, greenhouse by greenhouse, every building and every vehicle searched, [edit]….that would be a start. Might buy a few months of peacefulness…Covelo is a shining example of the effectiveness of the “broken window” theory of law enforcement. Let those “broken windows” go, let more show up- look the other way and ignore them and eventually you get Covelo. It did not happen overnight- it took years of denial and ignoring and avoiding and downright corruption by the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office to get here…We -just regular Laytonville folk- knew a decade ago that cartel was working with tribal members to blow up scenes that the cops either ignored or were paid off to ignore…and guess what? It didn’t get better left alone all that time. Surprise!!

In fairness towards the Mendo Sheriff’s Office, it’s hard to be effective without support from the locals. The condition of Round Valley reflects the priorities of the locals. The cartel scene moved in because certain locals saw a way to cash in and used their connections to paralyze the local government’s response. There’s grounds for massive action under RICO statutes, including land forfeitures, but for political reasons that’s unlikely to happen.

When Deputy Cox sued Barney during the Covelo deputy suicide days there were allegation made in legal affidavit disclosing that MCSO deputies had been engaged in recieving kickbacks in Covelo. Look at the Barney -Cox lawsuit, many allegations were brought to light and a settlement awarded, then everything was hushed up and swept back under the rug. The skeletons are in the paperwork. They are also very much alive in the closets of the Sheriff Department. Any real investigation has always been hushed up by the Mendocino County Sheriff and Government! Corruption is not a justified word to be used to describe the disgusting cover-ups and kickbacks paid!

Disgusting. Absolutely disgusting. For people to treat each other this way and then for the locals to not have the back of the sheriff’s or Tribal Police disgusting. It’s absolutely a word that I can’t get out of our mouths I’m saddened and shocked these two men should be the pillar of their tribal community. NO, now they’re in prison for the rest of their lives great examples boys. A beautiful valley , a place for much riches and education opportunities abound but everybody has to turn it into a toilet bowl. Beating and pillaging on each other yeah that’s the way to do it something to be proud of. Over nothing now all these lives are destroyed. Only 300 approximately tribal members in Round Valley at this rate if they keep killing each other or going to jail for killing other people there aren’t going to be many left before too long. Disgusting. What the hell is wrong with people absolutely not one Shred of humanity left. I Cry I Cry for everyone affected rest in peace. And even the ones that didn’t die you’re still dead cuz now you’re in jail for the rest of your life.

Anyone care to organize a discussion group? Any good, and all good, for that matter, need apply. Covelo, even having the blemished past, can become the bastion of beauty that it once was!
Safety in numbers, we should not let this valley become the boil on the ass of Mendocino county.
Fuck the dopers, if enough of us show our strength, solidarity, and steadfastness, we shall overcome the fucking lawless dope/crime/murder riddled rabbit hole all of us are being sucked down. For God’s sake, stand the fuck up, or we are all doomed. This may be our last chance. The first chance was about 20 years or so ago…

ROUND VALLEY is Mendocino Counties Forgotten Stepchild;

The kid in the background
The one who doesn’t smile
Who goes mostly unnoticed
And has for quite awhile.
The kid in the background
Who stands there all alone.
Is the child an orphan
The baby nobody owns?

The one who is forgotten
When family gathers.
Is this the only child
With no father or mother?
And what of the brothers
And sisters to this kid.
Why do they ignore him?
Is it something that he did?

The kid in the background
The last one to get picked
In a neighborhood game.
Is it some king of mean trick?
Are his glasses the problem
Or some condition of skin?
What can be the excuse
For the sad state he is in?

The kid plays by himself
It seems he has to pretend
That he is having fun alone
And that he has a friend.
Are these children like birds
That pick on an injured creature?
Where are the parents here,
The adults, the teachers?

The kid in the background
Might be the brightest one
But how will we ever know
If he shines brighter in the sun
Unless we ask the questions
Of what brings this all about
That children on the playground
Want to leave this kid out?

I would think the new mendocino county sheriff would be adamant to stop this kind of thing happening in his home town…
Might explain why Hoaglen has gotten off/away with so much…. just a thought.
