One Dead After Logging Truck Crashes on Highway 128 Near Navarro

CHP Fatality feature iconA person is dead after a logging truck went off Highway 128 near the Navarro Store Wednesday afternoon, according to the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash was reported around 1:52 p.m. at milepost 14.30 on westbound Highway 128. Callers reported a big rig had left the roadway and struck a redwood tree. One caller said a dog had jumped out of the window though it is unclear if that occurred before or after the collision.

Cal Fire and CHP responded to the scene. The logging truck, described as an empty big rig, came to rest approximately 35 feet off the road. A helicopter was requested but later canceled.

The Mendocino County Coroner has been notified. The victim’s name has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

CHP is handling the investigation. Caltrans was requested to assist with road conditions at the scene.
