Fortuna Union High School District Won’t Reopen This School Year

Once a month, the Fortuna Union High School District updates us on what’s going on in their world.

Dear FUHSD Community,

The Fortuna Union High School District would like to thank all our students, parents, and community members for their patience and understanding during this pandemic.  These have truly been unprecedented times.  We are honored to continue to serve during this time of crisis.

At our regularly scheduled board meeting last night the FUHSD Board of Trustees voted unanimously for school campus closure through the end of the 2019-20 school year.  The district was hopeful for us to be able to open our campuses prior to the end of the school year, but we were not afforded that opportunity.

The district schools are working hard to provide a graduation that meets all of the state-mandated parameters of social distancing and gathering.  We have discussed many ideas with Humboldt County Officials and are working collaboratively on a solution.  We will make every effort to provide an experience for our deserving graduates.

FUHSD schools will continue to serve our students with distance learning and meal service through the end of the school year.  The district schools will not be starting school next year in July.  The 2020-21 school year is currently scheduled to start on August 10, 2020.  As we go through the stages of coming out of the current orders, we will have a better understanding of what school will look like for next year.

Again, FUHSD would like to thank you for your patience and understanding during this stressful, uncertain time.  We appreciate the confidence you have put in us to manage this crisis with our students’ and community’s best interest at heart.  We will continue to update you as information becomes available.
