Fourth Annual Womxn’s Festival Features ‘Zero to Fierce’ at the Playhouse

Zero to Fierce 2020
This is a press release from the Arcata Playhouse:
February 28th through March 8th, 2020, Playhouse Arts produces the Fourth Annual 02F: Zero To Fierce Festival. This ten-day-long celebration of creative womxn around the world culminates on International Women’s Day on Sunday, March 8th. Playhouse Executive Artistic Director Jacqueline Dandeneau has brought together faith leaders, scholars, social-activists, clowns and an array of artists for this memorable event.
Featuring artists from Humboldt and abroad, this year’s festival also includes a 17-member cast from Southern California and promises to be thought-provoking, funny and inspirational. There will plenty of chances for people to gather, with many free events. A varied schedule offers many opportunities for people to enjoy all events or drop into individual events that interest them or provoke their curiosity. As American psychologist Rollo May reminded us, “Communication leads to community, that is, to understanding, intimacy and mutual valuing.” Dandeneau agrees. “I want to talk with others and be challenged to find solutions. And laugh. And sing. And eat good food. This is what the festival does for many people.”
Lunchbox, Evening and Weekend Series Offer Variety
The 02F Festival is comprised of three series: Lunch Box Series, Evening Series & Weekend Series.
The Lunchbox Series, Monday through Friday from noon to 1 p.m., offers a unique community experience instead of the ‘daily-grind lunch break’. Lunch Box topics include floating art with Marit Benthe Norheim from Denmark, Bird of the Inner Eye, a new chamber opera by Joan Schirle, excerpts from The Round Story, the film DOUK by Wiyot filmmaker Michelle Hernandez and talk with the cast of Menil and Her Heart. “When you buy your ticket, you get a light lunch of homemade soup, bread and salad along with amazing performances and important conversations,” says Dandeneau.
The Zero to Fierce Festival’s Evening Series kicks off with the One Minute Dances at Redwood Raks and the Womxn’s Visual Art Show in the Playhouse lobby, featuring art from women of all ages and orientations. Other events include a TruEntertainment documentary, the annual Convivial Symposium, and Balancing the Comedy and Tragedy of Life, revealing a clown dancing on the edge of her psyche. A theatre performance from Southern California, Menil and Her Heart deals with murdered and missing indigenous women. The Festival ends on International Womxn’s Day, hosted by Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom.

The Weekend Series kicks off with the Stop & Sign Art Installation Project, the International Potluck Brunch followed by Spirit & Justice: Ritual, Story, Song and Conversation, a panel with Women in Faith Leadership. Women’s Walks will begin and end this year’s celebration.

Whxt xf x wxrx Mxxcxn, wxxld x bx a Mxcn Wmxn…. no, i think i’d only be Latinx, but the x in that doesn’t mean the same thing. Conclusion: “x” is too much of a wild card when its meaning changes depending upon what word it’s in. Also, h to the double l to pronounce.
As if people don’t butcher the language enough without even trying. Here we have conscious effort to screw it up and make it less accurate.
Note that the dog im every womxn. That’s helpful.
